Sagan Threepeats!
« on: September 25, 2017, 02:03:20 PM »
Wow, that was a nail biter on Sunday.  Sagan found a way to do it again and will be wearing the rainbow jersey next season.  I guess this makes it easy on his team's kit designer.

I think I've finally reached "I don't care about pro cycling any more".

But I can still like Sagan without liking pro cycling.

I finally got around to watching the race [ALL of them actually: the TTTs, the ITTs, and Men's & Women's Elite Roads]

How does he do it? It's like he has an invisibility cloak or something. He essentially has NO teammates, no leadout, he just hangs around nearish the front, out of trouble, jumps into the lead group in the last corner and goes for it

Nice of him to dedicate the win to Scarponi

I didn't hear that he dedicated the win to Scarponi.  That's cool.

http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/latest-news/bora-hansgrohe-reveals-striking-new-team-kit-2018-362008

Quote
The new kit design is far more striking than the previous 2017 version, with aquamarine chevrons in several shades running down from the top black panel and into white. Shorts are black with aquamarine cuffs.

The name of title sponsors extraction fan manufacturer Bora and bathroom tap and shower maker Hansgrohe are given greater prominence than last year, with both logos on the jersey front and jersey/shorts side panels.

Of course, there was one Bora rider who was not sporting the new jersey – Peter Sagan. Instead, the road race world champion showed off his new rainbow jersey.

When it comes to Peter Sagan things are always entertaining and his new choice in ink is the same. The Joker style “Why So Serious?” tattoos seem to be all the rage and Peter is now contributing with his self-portrait located on his right side.

As my online buddy Dan Calllavari [@BrownTieDan] posted: "Let those among us without regrettable tattoos from our twenties cast the first ink-infused stone."

Oh, tattooing your face onto yourself is a bit much for me.  Peter, I think our bromance may be dying.

And he didn’t have a heart attack. RIP Michael Goolaerts.

I was watching NBC Sports coverage, and they were highlighting some one the crashes

I called D'Kid out "Hey! Look at this one! No one touched him, and he just went over the bars"

When I heard about Goolaerts, I went back to make sure it wasn't him I was mocking [because that would be Bad JuJu]

Fortunately (?) it was Nelson Olivera [MoviStar] that I saw take a dive

So many crashes at PR, no? Riding those crazy cobbles looks massively uncomfortable. I had to pass over more regular cobbles sometimes riding my bike growing up, but these are a whole different thing.

George Hincapie [highest ever finishing American at Paris-Roubaix with 2nd in 2005] discussed the cobbles in Sunday's STAGES podcast

https://soundcloud.com/user-411867241/paris-roubaix-stages-a-cycling-show-with-lance-armstrong

He had that spectacular crash in '06, when his bars just fucking came OFF!

[Cycling] Paris - Roubaix 2006: George Hincapie crashes

Maybe Sagan was thinking that, when he tweaked his own stem just a little?

George, what was your fave PR memory ? Was it the time you tried to ride it without handlebars ?

I read an interview with the second place finisher and was really interested in hearing what he said it was like following Sagan through the cobbles.  Apparently Sagan doesn't brake for the corners in the cobbles - he just lets up a bit and then puts the hammer down after the corner.

It was pretty cool to watch. The kid would take pulls on the pavement, but when they hit the cobbles he would just hang on for dear life.
It worked for him/them.

I like to read about these young riders having success.
