Thanks gentlemen!
Yeah that was amazing, I heard that news at about 30K into my race and used it as inspiration. 4:35 per mile for Kiptum. 10 years ago I never would have conceived that anyone could run 2:00, let alone sub 2:02. And Sifan Hassan ran the 2nd fastest women's time in history with a 2:13. This is an amazing era.
Americans fared well, with Connor Mantz, Clayton Young, Galen Rupp, and Sam Chelanga in the top 10 and going 2:08 or faster. The women scored some good times, I thought Emily Sisson would be 2:18 or faster but she was top American with a 2:22, followed by Molly Seidel (PR) and 40 year old Sara Vaughn both in 2:23 and the top 10.
Mixed about my race, I came in hoping for sub 3, which I held for 22 miles but had some leg cramps and had to slowed down considerably over the last 5. So 3:05, but I was 6th for my age in the Abbott World Marathon Majors age group championships. It was painful but I loved running in Chicago!
