quick bread making question
« on: May 09, 2020, 12:37:31 PM »
Yes I know this probably belongs in food but I need a fast answer. I got this "kit" to make amish friendship bread. Reading the instructions it says i can make two  9X5 loaves. I only have one pan. Do I just put the other "loaf" on a pan. What else can I do? I don't want to run out to get another pan. This is clearly not something I do and I honestly cannot tell you the last time I used the one I do have.

Doesn’t everyone just read new posts, I don’t think the FF is any more desolate than yammering?

Anyway, do you have a Dutch oven? That’s what I’d use.

I do not have one of those, either.  :(

You could also bake the loaves one at a time using the same loaf pan.

I did think about that. I think I am just going to put it on a greased pan and have a non-loaf shape. It is fine. We are eating it ourselves. If you want to move to the FF, please do so. Or I can delete. (I know there was a bread discussion going on not that long ago.)

Mr. Applebum just took a loaf out of the oven. It is really good. Fresh baked bread is the best!!

The bread turned out really well. I have the bread book that was recommended in one of these other threads (bread basics or something.) Anyway, I realized after the first "kneading" I actually folded the dough, instead of kneading. But I had to do it again after the bread rose anyway, so I kneaded then. I sliced the big round loaf first. I should have taken a picture but I forgot. I will post a pic of what is left of it and the other one. It tastes pretty good. A pretty good basic white bread, a little sweet.

Here it is. It does dry out very quickly.

That looks great! A tip I read to keep it from drying out was to cut the bread and take slices from the middle so you can put it back together and wrap it.  Maybe someone here told me that? This is the biggest bummer about homemade bread for me—it just doesn’t last very long and I don’t want to eat that much bread at once.

I’m hoping the foil will help it from drying out.

We also ate a ridiculous amount today. We have already finished off the first loaf....the non-shaped one. DH, who rarely eats bread, had some with butter as a snack.
