Lovely city of Pueblo, CO. It's actually pretty run down, former steel town fallen on hard times. Hot hardscrabble place of brick and crumbling asphalt, surrounded by desert grasses and cholla cactus.
This was a last minute thing, defined by mission creep. Plan was for 4 or 5X400 for a light speed workout on Friday, but the passing of David Torrence inspired me to plan a downhill mile on Saturday. I got an email for the USATF meet, an saw the standing records for 3000 m an 1 mile in my age group were low-hanging fruit. So road trip it was. I'll do a DT downhill mile later this month.
3000 - ran in my flats an hit 84s/85s and finished in 10:33--new record and 1st overall--but came one dry heave shy of throwing up on the astroturf infield just after crossing the line.
1 mile - after just a 20-25 minute recovery. Ran this one cautiously for the first half (2:45) an saved it for a good last lap (77 or so) to finish in 5:23 or 5:24 (results not up yet) for 2nd overall and 1st in age, and a age group meet record.
