What's in your home-cooked freezer stash?

Do you cook food for your freezer so you have it at a later time?
That is success to me, baby!  I so rarely do this, but when I do -- I love it!

Whatcha cooking and freezing these days??

Currently,  nothing. But if I'm being dilligent:

2 cup portions of soup
2-4 cup portions of beans and grains of various types
Vegetable stock
Baked beans
Apple sauce
Tomato sauce
Curry sauce
Carmelized onions
Single portions of past dinners or things like pasta.


I usually prefer ingredients to premade dishes. I can make a speedy, home cooked meal, with fresh ingredients that way. I find that meals that freeze well are things with like casserole, which isn't something I eat frequently.

I have two things of saag and two things of lamb curry in the freezer now. I find it very convenient to cook & freeze. Might be better in the winter, for hot food...it's 104 out today

We have gumbo, tortellini soup, pasta sauce, and I think some sort of Moroccan soup.

I'm not sure what's in my freezer.  That probably means I should throw it out.

Nope. Once it goes in it won't come out again. It will sit and build frost until I toss it. I'm terrible. I do cook with frozen chopped onions, broccoli and spinach though. I also have a block of frozen ground beef that will eventually come out. I should have done it tonight with my pasta and spiralized sweet potato as I needed a protein. Maybe tomorrow.

That's my problem. I make it a point not to make a big batch of something if there's already two other things in my freezer. Right now I have feijoada, the only other things I really make and freeze are taco soup, chili, and sauce/meatballs for spaghetti.

I'm so terrible about cook and freeze and forget. Our church has a soup kitchen and parishners cook casseroles (there are 5 on the list to cook), freeze them, and then take them to the soup kitchen to be heated and served. I just found one in my freezer. I cooked, froze . . . and forgot to deliver food to the soup kitchen.

Right now I only have chicken stock and Homemade chicken tenders. I usually like to make a lot extra, and freeze them raw. Pop in the oven and -boom- instant dinner made with non-crazy ingredients.

I have never gotten into the freezing of meals.  I should because it would help during busy weeks!

As of last week:
Pulled pork
Pasta sauce
Garden veggies
Chicken stock
Maybe a small container of chili
Split pea soup
venison sausage, hot links, patties, ring Bologna...I count these as homemade, since PortySon1 bagged the buck.

I had some yummy venison ravioli that my cousin had made (at some joint on Arthur Avenue), from the deer he shot last year. We ate them the other day, they were sooooo good.

I cook and freeze a lot of stuff.  Stock, rice, beans...

We are pretty good at going through it.  I portion it so the wife can take containers to work. 

I really ramp it up during the fall.  On Sundays I'll cook a soup, a stew, a lasagna, or an enchilada casserole thing, etc... I'll double the recipe and freeze it. 

From Late Oct through March I coach two afternoons a week and it keeps us from constantly doing take out.
