Baked ziti, maybe 2" deep, as a main dish? The recipe says 10.

I always make two pans when I have more than 6 adults to feed. If rather have too much than not enough. A 9x13 wouldn't feed the ten people I'd be cooking for. Not that they're pigs, but a few of the guys like big portions.

What MG said.  OR, provide lots of salad, bread or other sides to make up for less ziti per person.

Well this recipe ended up practically overfilling the pan. So easily 3" deep. We ate less than half with salad and bread as a family of 5 (although 3 of which are little).

Anyway, I'm organizing a freezer meal exchange, and we're supposed to have a recipe that feeds 4-5. I think I'll divide the recipe into (2) 8x8s.

I was going to ask who the eaters are. A family of five with three little ones is quite a bit different from a group of grown endurance athletes.  A pan that size would maybe satisfy about four of them. :D

We cook way too much food for larger groups but I'm paranoid to not have enough. I'd probably assume 1/2 what the recipe claims.

I feel so much better knowing that others over-prepare because of a fear of not having enough when entertaining large groups!  DH does not understand!

oh yes, i definitely do. I do not consider success having *just* enough food, i consider success, everyone being fed enough and the serving dishes not bare.

I'm required by religious law to cook too much food.

Similarly, I think I am required by genetics. Definitely more food than ever possibly needed.

Me too. No way would I trust that that would feed 10.

I like the idea of 2 8x8s. Give the person who receives it a chance to decide how much they need.

Ziti is excellent left over, especially with a bit of balsamic vinegar, and you get great economies of scale for the amount of effort (though not the ingredients), so I'd err on the side of way too much...
