Yum! I would totally still happily eat Jello with canned fruit in it.
That's Watergate salad, I believe. One of my friends brought that to a b-day party (in FL) earlier this week. It definitely references Jello and aspic salads of yore: Jell-O Art of the 20s and 30s.Likewise, I (a bona fide Northerner) do not consider deviled eggs to be retro. Other examples of so-called retro food in this thread so far strike me as basic 'Murricanized comfort food. For true retro cuisine, check out the Gallery of Regrettable Food.
Hmm...stuffed peppers are ethnic; I personally wouldn't consider them retro any more than stuffed cabbage.
If it was served at the American dinner table during the late 1950's early 1960's, it's retro.
