10 mile time trial.
Last three days have been miles of 0, 3, 0
so well rested and it's cool and cloudy.
But windy, oh well.
Decided to go for sub 8 pace,
this is a benchmark I use to consider myself in good shape.
Plan is to bank some time early, give it back in the middle to late, kick home for sub 1:20:00
Jog, stretch, away I go.
7:55, 7:56, 7:55 easy and painfree
8:01, starting to feel it, but I was going to give back time here anyway
8:04, 8:05, 8:04, Hit 7 miles about 1 second ahead of 8 pace,
I figure I can close the last 2 laps in -20 seconds if I have to,
so just cruise for 9 more laps before kicking it home
8:06, 8:03, starting to strain, but i always have something in the tank for the last mile
2:01, 1:58, 1:54, 1:48 (7:44)
(the extra 100m (american miles on a metric track, so + 10 meters per mile) in 26 seconds (already added to splits))
Done in 1:19:51, 7:59 average - though only 4 of the miles were in the 7s.
Fastest time in 7.5 years.
Nothing hurt, though afterwards my stomach and calfs wanted to cramp.
More than 2 minutes ahead of BQ-5, but the converters say I need to improve another 8 minutes!
That is for next year, this year is just to prove to myself I can run without getting crippled again.
The wind was strong and probably cost me 1 to 2 minutes.
Brought a water bottle, but never used it,
that's what mid 50s and cloudy can do.
218lbs and change after the run, lightest in 8 years.
10.3 miles today, 20.2 for the week, down from an average of about 27.
I have been going for speed the last month,
5k 10k and now 10 mile season bests,
but the increased pace has meant decreased distance.
Time to change back to more miles,
as long as my foot is Ok tomorrow.
According to my running logs this is my 9th fastest 10 miler.
