Just over an hour drive to the small Town of Lindsay, north-east of Toronto. C-c-cold day with temps around 0F with strong winds pushing the wind chill to about -13F. Smallish race for the local Boys & Girls Club with only 47 in the 10K as it seemed most people opted for the 5K in the winter weather with 150 entrants.
Loop course with the first half mostly into the wind and quickly settled into a line of four other runners, two gals and two guys. Trying to hang last behind the bigger guy so he could break the wind for me, but he was a little too fast, though I caught up with him a few times as I ran the tangents better than him. No big hills but some good rollers on the route. When we finally had the wind fully at our back and sun in our faces, I was able to pick up the pace and passed all four runners in my group. Slight distraction by a couple of Girl Guides with cookie "suitcases" in their hands going door to door en route. Just managed to stay focus and not stop for a couple boxes of cookies.
Managed to close within 16 seconds of the next guy in front of me which turned out to be the third place male. Results showed me more than twice the third place guy’s age, so I’m not that disappointed. So finished 4th place male and 9th overall (team of local tri club females in front), 1st in my 50-59 age category with the very next finisher that I passed earlier in my age group 30 seconds behind. 51:56 chip time. Picked up an extra gold medal award for my age group to go along with my "participant" medal.
