World Marathon Challenge
« on: January 29, 2016, 12:08:46 PM »
Did anyone follow this? I unfortunately only heard about it today, the final day as they are finishing. I am so impressed. I am mostly impressed with the woman from the USA who came in first and averaged under 4hrs for 7 marathon. Good lord! Between 7 marathons in 7 days I can't imagine the soreness, lack of sleep, dehydration etc plus travel. If you have FB, I would go to the page. Very inspiring to say the least.

I saw this too. Curious, I went to the website. It costs 36k euros to participate. That's 39k USD.

Yeah, very expensive. I was wondering how exactly all that was worth it, but there is prize money so I guess that counterbalances some of it.

The women's winner is from Mass.  She had sponsors; it was not paid for by her savings.

Sponsors or not, it's a lot of money.

A friend on FB (former client of my crossfit coach) was selected for the 2017 WMC.  I've been watching her posts about training in my feed.  And she was just in Miami recently for some PR for the event I think?  She's pretty incredible as an athlete, but moreso in that she's a brain cancer survivor.  I wouldn't put this on Facebook, but I hope she makes it to participate next year (she has a type that comes back).
