I can't find whole cloves ANYWHERE around here. In the summer, there were ground cloves (which I didn't buy because it wasn't what I was looking for), but now the spice display goes straight from cinnamon to cumin. No cloves to be found.
Is it a Newfoundland phenomenon, or is there are general clove shortage?

No. I go to the health food store where they have bulk spices. Cloves are also used in Indian food, so the ethnic supermarket has them, as far as i know.
Penzeys spices are great! you can mail order from them, I suppose.

I have been everywhere I can think of I also can't find star anise, but I suspect that's just because it's a relatively unusual spice. But no cloves?
I feel like this is something I shouldn't have to special order over the internet. :sigh:

There has been a shortage since 2011 driving up prices apparently. I have not noticed but I do not buy tons of them.

I hate buying cloves over the internet. They never fit quite right.

My coworker could not find dill seed anywhere this summer.

I had no problem last Dec finding ground cloves (I use them for Christmas cookies) but they were extremely expensive.
