Title: Sunday, November 2
Post by: caito on November 02, 2014, 12:12:30 PM
20 miles.

Wicked cold, temps in the 30s, rain, wind, then temps dropped more and the rain turned to snow.

My last 20 miler before Philly and my fastest 20 miler ever.   The amazing thing was that my legs felt great, the distance wasn't the challenge.  But my hands were in incredible pain.  I changed gloves 11 miles in because the rain had soaked them and my hands were wet and cold.  Around 16/17, I realized my hands were FREEZING.  And not just cold, it was PAIN.  My fingers felt swollen and I just kept wiggling them.   I can't believe how painful the cold wet hands were.  I also can't believe how manageable the distance felt.

Couch me.

I went out for 7.3 this morning with a friend, which was great - cold, windy, and gray - and I was not looking forward to it but had a solid run once we got going. Good pace, good chat.

Followed with 75 min Sunday morning flow yoga class and did some great work there. Been working on my headstand, to do the regular variation, not tripod, and did it today! Then did it a few times at home too - away from the wall. I'm super psyched. That makes me feel really strong.  :)

Nice job Caito! Mizuno makes these gloves where when they get wet, the fibers heat up. I love them and call them my magic gloves. Mine are a cotton version but I've seen them in a more fleece type material.

I got in probably similar distance as Cgraz. No one showed up to run from my club except one other guy and he is crazy fast. He ran into town w me. I told him he didn't have to. He's nice enough. A little odd. It was only raining and windy. The snow started after I got home. Crazy.

I have those gloves!  But of course I wasn't wearing them today, even after the glove change!  D'oh!  I opted for the heavier gloves with a wind pocket for my second pair because I thought they were warmer.  Not warmer when soaking wet!  Lesson learned.  If it rains on race day I'm bringing magic Mizuno gloves, a dry pair in a ziploc, and those disposable hand warmers.

While I felt good on the run, the faster pace is definitely catching up with me now.  I'll be creaky tomorrow.

weights and 30 minutes on a recumbent bike -- I was planning on racing this morning, but decided I didn't want to run my third consecutive race in high winds.

10 mile race. about 1:24. Disappointing. My heart and lungs are about as strong as they have ever been, but I'm 15 pounds heavier than usual at this time of year, and about 30 pounds above where I should be. I was expecting 40 degrees and windy, it was 55 degrees and windy. I overdressed and had overheating problems. It's a charity race and the first water station wasn't until mile 4.

I thought I could maybe do 1:20, and for sure 1:22. I was on pace through 4 miles, then the hills got to me and I had no oomph. The late race rebound never came and I struggled the rest of the way. The only bright spot was about 50 meters from the finish somebody tried to sneak up and pass me. I knew he was behind me with about half a mile to go. I picked up the pace, when he tried to go past I went all out and pulled away, by about an inch.

I did have fun visiting with family. Oh well. I have all winter to get ready for next year.

Good miles, everybody.

That is good work, esp. considering the wind and the crowd. Congratulations!
I stopped running large-city marathons because of the crowds.
Now, why are you not wearing your fitbit anymore?
