I have gotten 8.5 years out of my garmin 301 but it is on its way out. I need pace and distance. I don't use heart rate monitors despite having bought them. I am open to fancier wireless connections and uploads but what I really want is a watch with a readable big screen. That gives me pace and distance.
What do I get? I was very happy with the garmin.

Apple watch for me.

I don't want an apple watch for running.

Garmin 10.
Time, distance, pace. No fuss. Easy to read screen.
$129

That sounds like the one! Thanks!

Just to warn you: i am not getting this watch because its battery life, when exercising, is 5H when it's new. If you are into marathons and/or long runs, it may die on you during runs, esp. when the watch is getting older.
I think this is a better buy for that reason and not much more $$$.

Hmm. Thank you.

The forerunner 15 is $40 more but has an 8 hour battery life. And comes in purple. Caito- is this a good model to consider?

Commenting so this thread shows up in my "unread replies" list. I don't want to miss anything. :)

Yes! Just like the 10 but it also includes a pedometer so you can use it like a FitBit to count your daily steps if you want to.

The 15 looks good- has anybody heard anything about the soleus GPS watches? There is one for under $100!
-
Nothing is going to top Garmin for GPS accuracy.
If accuracy is important to you, then I'd spend the extra few bucks. If not, go Soleus.

Ok. Thanks.
I have been so impressed with the longevity and accuracy of my 301 that I would be hard pressed to abandon the brand. But I always want to make sure I do my due diligence.
In glad IC pointed out the battery life issue as I might not have noticed. I'll be much more pleased with an 8 hour battery.
The issue I'm having with the 301 is that the USB connection is not stable any longer. So you plug it in to charge at night and wake up to find it wasn't positioned just so. I'm sure it could be fixed - others have had the same problem. But it's 8.5. 8.5!!! That's so impressive. Good job garmin!
I may sell it on eBay for parts just to avoid putting electronics in the landfill.
I have the heart rate strap that's almost unused - will post that up on eBay too. Unless anybody here wants it- you can have it.

I just remembered i have a gift card to city sports and a gift card to another local running store. If possible i'd rather support the local stores than amazon. :) win win.
-
The gift card for south end athletic company was $50 and they had the purple 15 in stock. I called and they processed the order over the phone. My cost $124. Should be here in a few days.
Thanks all!

Quick update: the watch is light, accurate, and acquires satellites quickly. I'm not used to the button locations yet or the display but I'm coming around. Nice to not run with a laptop on my wrist.
Thanks again.
