How many uteruses have fallen out in the past thirty years of womens marathoning?
I still have the framed Nike poster of Joanie running on a lonely tree lined winter road hanging in my bedroom.

Thirty YEARS???!!!
I remember watching it!!!
"no one remembers second place" ...
Greta Waitz and Rosa Mota-- I used to see Rosa Mota training on the trails in New Canaan CT. I met Greta once at the NYC marathon expo. Both were very friendly and memorable.

I got a (bad) picture with her in 2010 at the Chicago Marathon. I don't think she was amused.

One of the great moments in sports. Joanie and Greta kicking down on the track at the same time was inspirational.

Gabriela Andersen-Schiess almost stole the show. Her finish was almost as important as Joanie's. If she had faltered, or worse collapsed and died on the track, there might not have been another women's Olympic marathon.

That is still amazing. If the race had been 10 more meters and she might not have made it.
