I tried it and it was NOT like popcorn. The chickpeas didn't "pop". I read that some brands do and some don't. If you have gotten this to work, what brand did you use?

i have roasted chickpeas before, a few times, and thought they were just ok. I did savory and sweet ones and just was not impressed.

they don't taste at all like popcorn and they're more work than popcorn; I think the analogy is just that both are a guilt free salty snack compared to, say, potato chips
I really like roasted chickpeas though.

I think they're good. I've never heard of them "popping" though and I can't really imagine that eating them in significant quantities would be "better" for you than popped corn... but I guess it depends on how you define "healthy". I would also be concerned with the gastro intestinal consequences of eating them in significant quantities!

A long time ago i made savory ones with chili powder, season salt, etc and they roasted FOREVER in the oven. I probably could have eaten the whole can full in one sitting. They are so small and crunchy. Yeah air popped popcorn would probably be better :D

Well, I tried again tonight..this time oven-roasting. They were better, but still not really all that spectacular.

How else would you roast them besides the oven?
