Ugandan runner Joshua Cheptegei smashed the 5K world record on Sunday at the Monaco Run 5K. His time of 12:51 bested the previous record by 27 seconds. Cheptegei set the (now broken) 10K world record in December and won the 10,000 meters on the track at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
He was wearing Nike Vaporfly shoes.

Actually by 8 seconds, but the IAAF is silly like that. All single letters, so at least it's legit! :runner:

My first thought, it's the shoes. He's a great runner and will be the favorite to unseat Mo Farah in the Olympics. But the world record now, it's the shoes.
