Obviously not happy when anyone dies. Especially after a long bout with cancer.
Still everyone still talks about her, and not Jacqueline Gareau. I made a point of remembering the name of the rightful winner.

Gareau did get accolades (she broke the course record) but her moment in the sun was taken away by Ruiz, who never ever admitted it. JC lived in Boulder in the early 2000s and we'd see her and her family (think she had kids about the same age as ours) at the Nordic ski centers in the mountains. We moved away and maybe she moved back to Canada. Ruiz seemed troubled, and seems to have got caught up with a fake 2:50s at NYC the year before and her boss put her up to run Boston. Who knows if she'd crossed in a 2:42 and then "retired" maybe we never would have heard about it.

Good follow up on Gareau
