Title: How to dress for this run thread
Post by: diablita on December 11, 2016, 06:47:54 AM
8k race this morning

It's 26 degrees right now and supposed to stay that way for most of the day, will feel like 20 with windchill according to weather.com.  Wind won't be too bad though, maybe 5 mph tops.

I was originally going to wear capris but now I'm thinking full length tights.  The ones I have that fit me are fairly warm -- will I be too warm?  And then long sleeve shirt, vest, running gloves and maybe a hat?  Does that sound too warm for racing?

It sounds about right.

Thanks!  It was perfect.  The wind kicked up a little at the start (while we ascended like 300 feet in 1/4 mile) so I was a bit cold, then perfect for most of the race, then a little warm at the end so the gloves came off and the vest unzipped halfway.

If anyone else wants to use this thread for their own runs, go ahead.

I missed this yesterday but it sounds like you had it about right.

I raced 10K on Saturday and it was 34 at the start, with no wind, maybe 38 by the time we finished. I wore tights mainly because it had been so cold all week and we were on a river bottom under cloud cover so it seemed cooler. Wore buff as a headband, and very thin poly pro gloves, on top a thin tech long sleeve (tight weave) and my race singlet over that.. At 5 miles my legs felt hot and I wish I'd worn my half tights [they are thigh level, like what sprinters wear (real guys don't wear capris! Although you see it from time to time)].

Nice Coyote!  No doubt you do great in cold weather considering where you've lived over the years.

Thanks but I looked at the finish photos, in the top 20 only 2 wore full tights, and 12 were wearing shorts and singlet (although 3 of them had arm warmers). But when you get into the 30s and beyond, more wore tights or long pants of some sort.

Good thread idea!

Hey Rochey, like old times!
