I'm going to a St. Patrick's Day party this weekend and I usually help out by bringing a dish. I need to phone it in a bit this year because of time constraints, so I thought I'd hop on the tater tot trend bandwagon. Host is providing me with oven space, so all I have to do is heat and serve. I figure everybody loves tater tots, plus... POTATOES. Amirite?
What fancy pants dips can I bring to up my tater tot game a little? I'm thinking of ketchup (obviously) and then some sriracha mayo? What else?

I just googled "fancy dip for tater tots" and saw this

Ooh, I like that! Thanks!
I think I'm going to do half regular and half sweet potato tots.
-
I think some sort of chipotle ranch dip would be good with sweet potato tots, and you can probably find a premade one at the store.
Now I want tots.

You guys know how much I love tater tots?

A lot.

When I was pregnant I would only eat tater tots until about 15 weeks. DH was like, Um, I have NEVER seen you eat one before. Bags and bags of frozen organic tater tots. I could barely stomach anything else.
No wonder DD is a potato eating machine.

Every time I see this thread I think of Napoleon dynamite and his tots in his cargo pocket.

Give me some of your tots!

I didn't know there was a tater tot trend bandwagon...

I see them everywhere now! Food trucks, dressed up as appetizers at fancypants bars, etc. Even the sandwich shop in my office building offers them as a side for lunch.

I had no idea! How long, I wonder, until they grace the cover of bon appetit...

But they will be hand grated and custom shaped. With microgreens.

One of our favorite little pubs/bistros has homemade tots on the menu. You can order toppings too - like a fried egg with jalapenos. Yum!

Man!! That sounds good!

Now I really want some tater tots. I can just taste the saltiness, feel the crisp crunch of the outside give way to the steaming, softer inside as I bit into one... Auughhhh. Why can't fatty potatoes be good for us?
There is a Korean/Tex-Mex place near us that does "kimchi fries" - beef bulgogi, caramelized kimchi, cheddar + monterey jack, onions, cilantro, magic sauce (mayo-based), sesame seeds, sriracha. SO and I reproduced it at home with tater tots. HEAVEN!

Wow! That sounds amazing.
Tell me more about caramelized kimchi.

It's pretty much just what it sounds like! This is actually the Kimchi Fries recipe from the place I was talking about - caramelizing the kimchi is on step 3! http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/french-fries-with-bulgogi-and-caramelized-kimchi (http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/french-fries-with-bulgogi-and-caramelized-kimchi)

My local bar serves something they call a "tot roast". It's tater tots covered with pot roast, cheddar cheese and gravy. It looks disgusting, but it's REALLY tasty comfort food.

Not a fan... It conjures up an image of a janitor scraping up the spillage of a days work in an oreida factory and then mixing it all together with that white gummy paste we used back in first grade. :nono:
