Title: Does anyone have a homemade baked beans recipe (with no meat)
Post by: moroccangirl on March 15, 2016, 01:05:57 PM
I'm just looking online and I saw this crockpot recipe. Wouldn't these canned beans be mush after cooking them for 8 hours?

I have a really excellent one in a cookbook. I'll see if I can track it down for you.

I made this over the summer. Took a few batches to perfect. I reduce the liquid smoke a lot because just a few drops is very strong

I'm sure I won't find liquid smoke here. Not easily at least. And I have to make this this weekend. I should have signed up to being dessert!!!

the best one ever is on the Crosby  molasses website.  calls for pork but just leave it out.  it's GREAT.

You could easily leave the liquid smoke out, I am pretty sure I did not put it in all the batches. But no matter the recipe 1tsp of liquid smoke is crazy talk.

I ended up making this recipe. I will always love canned vegetarian baked beans, but these turned out really, really good. I'll definitely make them again.

Ok, make it. I just tasted them after they've been sitting in the fridge all night (it's noon here). They taste almost like the canned baked beans, but better. I told my friend I might eat them all before I bring them to her house. I didn't make any changes to the recipe, I made it just as is and I think I cooked them for 7 hours on high.
