Title: Treadmill with ifit
Post by: omega lambda on October 08, 2015, 08:30:53 PM
Never thought I would say this, but I think I love my new treadmill.

Training up here is hard; we have hills hills and more hills and while we get quite strong, we have no speed.  It is difficult to find places to do speed workouts because there are no flats that are close to us, and driving 30-40 minutes loses its appeal after awhile.  So we got a treadmill.  It has ifit technology, which so far, is really cool.  Today I ran in Paris (via google maps on streetview), but when I paused I accidentally stopped my run, couldn't figure out how to get back to it, so started a new run in Half Moon Bay.   :D

Any one else using ifit?

I know what it is, but I've never used it.  Sounds pretty cool.  Anything that makes running on the treadmill more bearable is okay in my book.

Yes!  It's not the same as being there, and your view is limited to what streetview provides, but there are quite a few trails included now as well.  One aspect I really like so far are the programs available on the ifit website.  You can "join" a program that has a bunch of runs that are categorized and graded with a difficulty scale.  For instance, there's a set of 10 or so runs of varying distances in Venice.  The difficulty scale is low since it is mostly flat.  They also have programs for ellipticals and cycling.  They also have programs aimed at improving certain skills, like speedwork and hills.  Pretty cool so far.

I think maybe I used to download training programs from that to my iPod back in the day?

Our treadmill has it but we've never used it. I have considered subscribing for the winter months, but mostly when I'm on the treadmill I just want to watch Netflix or hockey.
