Is it not enough to go for a nice 5 mile run and enjoy the sunshine and wind in the trees anymore?

I agree.

I have no issues with people trying some crazy feat of endurance, but it is the whole branding of it, the ego waving and the attention whoring that gets me. I do endurance events mostly for myself, not to show off and be cool. I just do not understand the ego side of it. I have a running friend who has done some crazy endurance events and he posts on FB, but nothing beyond that, he is so humble and I admire that in him.

He's on #50 today.
I met him in Massachusetts on day #32. He seemed genuine. I have to say, I saw no ego. Everyone I met -- him, his buddies, his wife, kids, etc. seemed humble and down to earth. And they have been inspirational to so many they have encountered.

It's the website, the name, etc that irks me, to me that is ego. I just had a running friend set a guiness book world record in regards to running, no one but two of us and his wife knew about it prior, we only knew because there was a chance I would be at the race and he needed witnesses.

I think his cause--raising awareness about childhood obesity and encouraging family health and fitness--is a good one. Doing something you once thought was "impossible" is a great motivator. In fact, I remember tracking you on your Western States ultras! :) I loved it. Because it just seemed amazing!
IMHO, there is a hellofalotta more ego out there in other athletes than I see in him. I had never heard of him or his records before this.
Definitely not trying to pick a fight with you, Meri. :) I just found it remarkable and inspiring.

Me too. I'm liking what he's using for fuel.

^Ha! I just saw that. Me, I'd be looking for pepperoni pizza and ice cream. But he is doing the right thing! :)
