Title: garmin 210
Post by: teetime on March 11, 2015, 03:29:08 PM
Mine is taking something on the order of FOREVER to find my location (I do alternate between starting runs at home and starting them at the office).

a) Can I do any reset, data dump, etc. to make it better?

b) Can I forget about it and use my Android to track mileage somehow?

(I used to map runs and not worry about a watch but I had more time then and would cheat so I really ran 8.6 miles but called it an 8 mile route. Now I want credit for every step :))

Updating the software helps, as does keeping a full battery charge. It's annoying.

I leave mine outside while I put on shoes, gloves, etc.  You can also leave it in the car searching for satellites.

I haven't updated the software ever. So I'll start there.

Icecream, that's not a bad idea at home ... I can leave it on the porch. It won't work when I run home from work though (work on a high floor of an office building) and that's when I have such limited time that spending 6-7 minutes of my run sitting around is maddening.

So, phones aren't smart enough to do a garmin's job?

I can leave it on the porch.

This what I do.  If I'm driving somewhere to run, I still leave it on the porch; then shut it off when I'm ready to go.  When I get to where I'm going to start my run, it connects with a satellite much faster.

I'll leave mine outside or on a north-facing window sill. *Then* I can tell my running partner I'm ready without her getting all  :bat: while stupid Garmin takes all damn day to do its thing.

Raise your arm and stand up on your tippy toes so you will be closer to the satellites.  You're welcome.

In all seriousness, yes do a software update and try to move to a more open area if you are in a canyon of buildings or heavily forrested area.

My phone works great.  It's just a normal iphone running the free Endomondo app.  I leave GPS on all the time, so it takes no time at all to acquire satellites.  Walk out the door, start up the app and get moving.

6-7 minutes???????????

Mine is one at the most, and I have the 110 (same as 210 minus HRM)
