Need socks recommendation
« on: January 02, 2015, 08:17:39 AM »
I hate running in 30 degree weather and have avoided if forever.

I might run a 10 mile race in 2 weeks.  I ran this a.m. and endured the cold.  It really isn't a big deal.  Except my toes.  My toes get painfully cold.  Usually I just wear cotton socks.  What should I be wearing in 30 degree weather to keep my lil tootsies warm?

Merino wool running socks.

Not your average thick every day socks.  But some companies do make running specific socks out of wool and they are so soft and warm.  I wear them all the time.

They make crew style socks too.

SmartWool makes them as well (duh.)

Ditto the wool - I have a few pairs of SmartWool socks that come into heavy circulation at this time of year. Very comfy and big difference in terms of warmth.

I am a feetures convert. I don't know if I have the merino ones or not though. My SIL just gave me two more pair. I cannot get enough.

No a sock recommendation, but a gore tex running shoe recommendation. It was the best purchase I ever made.  Brooks ghost GTX is what I have.

But, in 30 degree weather, wool socks should do.

This may be one of my greatest triumphs!  :D

The Feetures company is a really good one.  Small family business.  The owner/president is the nicest, nicest man.  They work really hard and are one of my favorite vendors.

do feetures last longer than other running socks? I'm forever poking holes in them!

I'll admit, I am swayed from my love of Balegas...have been giving Feetures a chance after all the talk in there! (And because I know caito knows stuff about stuff, and stuff.)

Feetures do come with a lifetime guarantee, I believe.  Check the website!

Balega makes great socks too, I just happen to have a personal relationship with the Feetures crew.  And one of them happens to be very handsome.  :D

Great thread. I run with whatever was inexpensive at WalMart most days and Balaga for longer runs. Noting special for colder months other than sometimes doubling up. I think I'll give these a try.

Feetures do come with a lifetime warranty. I have only been wearing them for a couple of months but have wondered if that meant holes too.

Recreational TM jogger, checking in.
I'm a Zulu girl, but am always willing to try new socks, especially if they transition well to my other types of training.

I have a holiday $30 FleetFeet gift card, and am willing to try the Feetures.
I assume they carry a variety of styles in this brand.
(I will all the local store to see.)

I admit that I buy the quality running socks that are cheap at TJMaxx and Marshalls and other discounted places. My only requirement, besides no cotton, is no noticeable seams at the toes. I love fox river socks and wigwam socks. Not a great fan of smart wool, but they are OK.

Vermont Darn Tough socks.  Balega wool socks are real good.  Also, big fan of FEETURES.  I don't have the FEETURES wool socks but I run in their lightweight socks and love them.
