This is Linkin Park's Chester Bennington performing in his night job as Stone Temple Pilots' lead singer. (If you're not up on your 1990s rock news, STP fired Scott Weiland in February and hired Chester in May.) They're in the midst of their first tour together, so I spent last week traveling around to three of their shows in three different states via hilarious modes of mass transportation (Hello, super sketchy casino bus to the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA!) because I don't drive. Great music, a great show, and a great time watching four guys have so much fun on stage together. Oh, and lots of great pictures because it really wasn't all that difficult to get right up close and personal at these shows!

I just pushed the button...the camera did the rest...
My picture took a little more staging. I had to raise the kid who had the kid and then talk someone else into pushing the button. :D

I took some pictures of my friend's family this weekend. It was a good experience and I learned some things. It helped that the kids were far better behaved than mine.

kid, 77, at lacrosse games yesterday. he played with the "A" team (I coach him on the "B" team) so this was the first chance I had to take photos. They got crushed, but they had a lot of fun. he loves the game, has no regrets about leaving baseball.

My family has been going to Long Beach Island, NJ in August for a week or two for the past 40+ years. We have always rented a house at the southern tip of the island, known locally as Holgate, but actually part of Long Beach Township. The bay and the beach are only about 0.25 - 0.5 miles apart. We have stayed at this house for the past 8 years. Our kids and their cousins have a great time at the end of the summer, after camps and sports and work, and look forward to getting together for a while. The house has a huge deck on the roof and, usually after many gin and tonics and IPAs, I head up to shoot the sunsets, or sometimes go up to take morning shots. it is a wonderful place, no two sunsets are the same (as far as I am concerned).

Thanks! I probably took 3000 shots of it! Not really, but I took a lot. It kept looking better at different angles and the more we walked away.

Thank the maker we aren't having to buy film! I take way too many pictures..
The Rice Harvest Festival was this weekend here in my little town... biggest weekend of the year dontcha know... unless we go to State of course! ;)
Anyway, the prototypical small southern town carnival complete with stereotypical carnies is set up about 5 blocks from my house... I really wanted to go try some night shots but "we" had other plans.

took off yesterday and snapped a few shots in the NJ pinelands. top shot is from a fire tower in the middle of wharton state forest. forest shot is of the Wading River near it's confluence with Great Bay. gorgeous weather day yesterday. warm and sunny.

canon eos 60d with EF 17-40 L lens (pretty much the only lens i use). these were all 3 shot hdr (-1, 0, +1) processed in photmatix and lightroom.

Right now a nikon d7100 and a d5300... although some of the pics I've posted here were with a d3200 or d5000.
I like the Tokina 11-16 and the Sigma 17-70 a lot! I also hit the jackpot with a Sigma 18-250. Incredible lens for what I paid. It really seems as sharp as several of the Nikon primes I have.
