Glad they felt better today - mine are a little better too.

This is the roller/stick thing that I got. It is a ridged firm foam material. Pretty cool and gets in there better than a big foam roller, but with a better surface than the stick.

When I had achilles tendonitis, I got bi-weekly massages and focused on my calves, used my stick, did yoga at least once a week, and did eccentric calf raises 3x a day.  I feel like nobody on this board ever wants to listen to me when I tell them it's calves, calves, calves.   :pissed:

All of the above has also fixed peroneal tendonitis and plantar faciitis.

I think it's calf related.  They are tight.  They randomly cramp.  They are tight.

I've had achilles tendonitis for probably 10 years now.

I cannot do the eccentric calf raises.  Two weeks of constant pain after one session.  Guaranteed. Every time. 

I need to probably get on a massage schedule.  I can't do it myself.  (The amount of pressure needed with say a Stick drains my shoulders and leaves bruises on my calves).  STrasburg sock goes very poorly with hot flashes and someone who gets up twice in the middle of the night to pee.  Also, I have no idea where it is.

The peroneal tendonitis I had was related to scar tissue from ankle sprains and manual PT straightened that out.  I could only wear backless shoes for several months.

My achilles has been bothering me off and on for the past two months.  Rochey is right, it's because my calves are tight.   ART focuses on my calves, and I use the stick as well.  Also, Kinesio Tape is quite helpful.

I do think calf massage by a professional on some semi-regular schedule would be helpful.  I should look into that.  There is a massage place convenient to me that has good hours and does a good job, at least when I've been there.  Way pricey though.

I am really cheap/frugal but have been spending a small fortune on massage

I have had both achilles operated on.  One burst, the other was headed in that direction. My calves are and always have been, um, remarkable? Very strong, very tight.

One thing I've read recently is a possible correlation to the use of statins and achilles issues.  I have been off and on statins over the last decade, so that's my anecdotal evidence. 

I've done a lot of PT and have really worked on lengthening the entire back side of my legs through light stretching.

I have a friend who took - is it Cipro?? - and as a result has had Achilles issues. There was a connection between that two that she was completely unaware of.
