Title: Red Sox
Post by: i am party on July 24, 2017, 07:31:35 AM
I don't watch regular-season baseball, but I keep one eye on post-season play if the Red Sox are involved. Maybe not this year, though. What an unlikeable group.

You know who's even more unlikeable? The team with the worst record in baseball.

They can always trade for Odubel Herrera.

Watching this Phllies team is painful, even when they win.

Yes, local vernacular: fall ball = the fall baseball season.

Back in the day, fall was reserved for Pop Warner football, we wanted to get an early start on our brain damage.

My district used to be a football powerhouse, but over the last 17 years the program has dropped off dramatically. The longtime HS coach attributed it to changes in demographics (I.e., Chinese and Indian families don't sign their kids up for Pop Warner, so there's no feeder system to the HS). Soccer has become king.

Baseball isn't that big, surprisingly.

How old is your boy?

After one day at soccer camp*, my kid wants to also do Junior Academy this fall. It'd be a big commitment, time- and money-wise.

* I thought it'd be "soccer camp," run by teenagers who let kids run around booting balls; it's run by one of the local academies and seems intense. I was intimidated at drop off! :D He wasn't. For all the talk about "kids these days" :old: , there's a level of confidence in today's young kids that I totally lacked, anyway!

He's 12.  He's been doubling the baseball/soccer each Spring for the past few years.  Now with baseball moving to the big field next Spring, he decided it was a good time to stop.  He's going to do club soccer starting in the Fall.

He just finished with District Select Soccer yesterday.

As did Rafael Devers.  Unfortunately they lost.

He did save Sunday's night game against the Yanks with a 9th inning shot against Chapman.

Phillies lost too. This team is abysmal, but I've been watching them almost every night.

Hoskins is the real deal so far. As for the rest of the team, I should 'ave me head examined for watching them.

Local kid.  Even pitched a little with the Sox.  Would have liked to see him get the perfect game, or the no hitter, or the shutout, or the win... But alas,  :(

Hoskins has 7 home runs in 14 games, it's safe to assume he's not going to keep up that blistering pace, but he passes the eye test so far. He has the ability to draw walks, the kid has an I.

Nice series with the Blue Jays while the Yankees got swept by the Tribe.  A little breathing room.  For now.  We'll see how this 4 game set with them this weekend works out.  If we split, we'll be in good shape.  Sh!t has happened before in this situation, so I won't be counting my chickens.

My assistant and I are just getting organising ourselves for the upcoming soccer season.  My son is passionate about soccer.  His twin sister was a soccer powerhouse, but this year she decided she wanted to do gymnastics.  She's good enough without any real formal coaching to get an invite to the competitive program at the local academy.  I wish soccer ended in December here - playing in January and February just sucks.  If they want to have a second season do a spring one parallel to baseball and lacrosse.
