are/were any of you rowers?
« on: July 30, 2015, 03:20:24 PM »
i've paddled kayaks and canoes, and rowed rowboats.  but rowing in a shell, i'm sure, is an all together different animal.  it was not an option at my middle or high schools, and when i was in uni, i stuck to the sports i'd played in primary and secondary school.

both my father and i have been talking about this a lot, and he is really excited about getting a boat and rowing (it is something he has done in the past); i'll admit, i've been infected by his enthusiasm.

i'm registering for masters (ye gods!) rowing.  this is just an intro. course, so if i hate it, i'm not out anything significant in terms of time, or money.  and i'll have tried something new.

do you have any advice/comments/criticisms/warnings?

I've never done it with an actual boat; just the C2 rower at various gyms.  Looks like fun, though.  There's a guy on my lake who rows a single scull.  Man, that thing flies!

there's a spot at one of our local parks where the singletrack seemingly hangs above the river.  i sometimes stop to watch the rowers...  they just GLIDE over the water.  and so fast.

My only experience with rowing is with a Concept2 and the CRASH Bs.  I would love to go on the water, except I can't swim so that wouldn't be a good idea.  Just be patient as you develop the coordination and fitness you will need to really enjoy rowing.

Oooo...have fun, witchy!

I've never done more than to sit in a docked single scull and try not to fall out.
I attended an open house at the UW-Madison rowing facilities. Sweet.
As well as the UW, the rowing club scene is huge here.

:bow2: rowers :bow2:

do you have any comments?

two things I know about rowing: Hugh Laurie and Hot Body.

and the other two things I've heard about rowing: that it's pretty brutal and that it's supremely satisfying.

all this to say: I think you'll like it, witchy.

In honor of this thread, I did a high intensity C2 workout the other day.  30, 20, 10 format.  Kicked my boo-tay.
