USA T&F Champs this weekend
« on: July 25, 2019, 12:40:27 PM »
In Des Moines, Iowa for maybe 3rd time in past 5 years. With WCs coming up (in October!?)
10000 m for men and women tonight kick off the finals.

All other distance and middle distance finals are on Saturday and Sunday. But the 100 m is tomorrow night.

Check Running Rogue for a preview for distance and middle distance events. Or letsrun main page for a comprehensive look.

I'll stick to running, thank you.

Congrats to Penn’s Nia Akins qualifying for the women’s 800m final!

And how about Blake Leeper, born without both legs, winning his semifinal heat of the 400m

And poor Dez Bryant misses making the National team to go to worlds in the 100m by .01 seconds.

Gatlin DNS for the final? Watup? Drug testers standing at the finish line?

Last night had some good action in the women's 1500 semis and men's and women's 10000. Most of the favorites breezed through, but a few surprises. Cory McGee a possible team contender was DQ'd for trying to pass another runner on the inside and elbowing her in the process. That was a bonehead move. And Alexa Efraimson one of the top high school prodigies ever (4:03 1500 in hs) now a pro 4 years later was way back, apparently injured.

Molly Huddle and Emily Sisson put on a clinic in the final stretch of the 10000 to finish 1-2. But 5th place Marielle Hall gets to go to worlds based on her qualifying time.
I'll stick to running, thank you.

As defending world  champion, Gatlin already was on the team for the worlds, so didn’t have to race.

Congrats to Lopez Lomong, winner of both the 5K and 10k. Impressive kick for the 10k National Champion.

Dalilah Muhammed breaks the world record in the 400m hurdles! Incredible.

That was the highlight and surprise of the meet! They were so focused on the young Sydney McLaughlin and almost wrote off Muhammad as the also ran.

Worth a watch.

Also American records for men's pole vault (19'10.5") by Sam Kendricks and women's hammer throw (258' 8") by Deanna Price.
Noah Lyles asserted his dominance in the men's 2000 with a 19.77.

And lots of great middle distance and distance action to decide the teams. Too much to summarize here. See letsrun.com home page (it's a B+), not their toxic message boards (D, F).

I'll stick to running, thank you.
