Saw MTP last week
« on: January 03, 2018, 03:25:50 PM »
He was leaving the local YMCA.  Doesn’t appear to be running. If it can’t do 60-70 miles a week he doesn’t want to.

I think a few of you may remember him.   An amazing ultra guy.   He was on the USA ultra team and ran sub 20 minutes for the final 5k of his 100 miler.

RandMart will probably remember triathlete Mike Pigg. He was a friend of a friend. 2nd at Ironman Hawaii one year and several top 10s. Had a great career but never quite broke to the top due to some health issues.

I'll stick to running, thank you.

Yes, I do! Same guy?

I didn't know he was doing ultras

No don't think it's the same guy. But he did diversify some later in his career, ran some marathons and maybe an ultra or two.
I'll stick to running, thank you.

Excellent link, thanks MarlySue

{quote]Henze's story touches on elements of obsessions and addictions, the struggle of someone who once weighed more than 300 pounds and the constant threat that he could easily balloon back to that weight.

There are many stories of Ultrarunners coming from addictive backgrounds; in fact, it's hard to find some that didn't

YMMV

indeed.

I sometimes [half]joke that I'd never be a successful Ultrarunner, because I've failed at being a drunk or a junkie

Much like running, I was never quite good enough at alcohol or food addictions.  I could see a glimpse of success ...and then it was gone😂.
