Hah, I need one of those. I don't run anymore and haven't for the past few years. After I get the bionic knee sometime in the Fall, we'll see if that changes. In the meantime, my challenge is to keep the musculature in the right leg from wasting away to nothing.
-
I enjoy those. I think you need to go with either the 26.2 + up or 0.0 to make it work. But I see people with 3.1 stickers and that's just lame.
-
0.0 if funny.
3.1 or 6.2 is lame (even though I would love to be in 10k shape and not have everything hurt).
I don't think 13.1 is uncool. I will throw a bi ass damn party if I can ever get my body up to that legitimately.

13.1 is America's favorite distance

0.062 would be cool but nobody would understand.

I like it. You should have one but I have no idea where you would get it.
-
I think Cafe Press makes stickers as well as t-shirts. you could get a .062 printed up. If cafe press doesn't do it, I am sure someone does. and I would have no idea what it meant if I had not seen it here.

O.o

Once a customer in the running store asked me what 26.2 meant. He thought it was a Bible quote or something. :D

It sorta is.

I saw a guy the other day with a Hardrock 100 license plate rim and a bunch of '100' stickers. Take THAT 26.2ers! :d
-
Out on the road today, I saw a BLACK FLAG sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said, "Don't look back. You can never look back."

So, if you've ever run a race, you know you get like a goody bag. Like six-year-olds at a birthday party. And, like a six-year-old I am going to complain about mine.
There were shitty muffins and coupons and all that other crap; which, whatever, I gave to my wife. She loves that shit. What was not in the goody bag was a 13.1 sticker. Now, listen. I'm not saying I was going to put it on my car; that would be embarrassing. But I would have put it somewhere in my house or something. Or a garage, if I ever get to the station in life where one has a garage. I always assumed that's where people got them from. Oh, you just ran 13.1 miles? Here, have a sticker to prove it.
Now, either this particular race dropped the ball and didn't give out the stickers, or anyone can just go out and buy themselves a 13.1 or 26.2 sticker. That's problematic for a number of reasons, not the least of which, who in God's name is buying that sticker for themselves? I would have gladly accepted the sticker. I'm not going to go out and buy my own pat on the back, though. Have some pride, for chrissakes.
So, who gave that knucklehead above all the 13.1 stickers? Wouldn't someone see his car and say: "Oh, he already has one, and one is certainly enough"
... and yes, it's obviously a dude driving that around ... no chick would do that
BTW: It's a LAW in New Jersey, that if you have a Jeep Wrangler Soft Top, one of these must be prominently displayed

0.0 is pretty funny.
I saw a car yesterday with three stickers - 5K, 10K and 13.1. DH chuckled.

I saw one yesterday that said "Twentysix.two". :skep:

Was the 13.1 covering up the 10K covering up the 5K? Like the driver was moving up in class?

I am definitely getting a .062 one next summer.

I saw a MA license plate yesterday that said ' RUN 262' and then a bumper sticker that said 26.2. I thought of this post since it was bumped again recently. The guy was probably in his 50s and kind of looked like a runner. He was driving so hard to tell.
-
So I still do not get why is wrong about using a bumper sticker, or whatever, to state your interests/hobby/way of life/etc.
:-\

DH has a 26.4 sticker on his car, from a trail marathon.

Make a bumper sticker about it to really share your thoughts with the community.

And you're still posting in it. I guess thats how you get 15000+ posts.

Are we fighting here?
-
It's important that someone with half a brain point out that it's perfectly acceptable to affix a running related bumper sticker on one's car and that not everyone, not even a majority, within the running community think this is somehow wrong headed or displays faux braggadocio or whatever it is you people have a hair up your ass about.
-
Well you've got the half a brain part down.
I don't think the majority of people in this thread think what you've so graciously attributed to us all. There is some negativity towards 3.1 and 6.2 stickers, but you of all people (elitist coastal snob that you are) should understand that. Even so, its not wrong to put it on your car if you're proud of that and "not everyone, not even a majority" in this thread thinks that. Calm the fuck down!
-
Me, I don't get that negativity toward 3.1 and 6.2. It's not easy to run those distances well.
I'd rather run a fast 10K than a slow full or ultra. And as a fan a 27 min 10K sure beats a 10 hr 50 miler, unless it's up the Eiger or something.

Clearly we need all runners to list their PRs on their stickers so we can properly judge them and decide who is a "real" runner and who isn't.

Stamped on their ass or forehead? Perhaps both.
-
I'd think "runners" would want to do everything they can to encourage others to join in. My experience has always been one of inclusiveness and acceptance. All this business about how affixing stickers to cars having accomplished a certain distance is somehow wrong really strikes me as the opposite and driven by what could well be your own insecurities.
Affix my friends, affix.
-
Methinks Johnny has festooned his bumper with inspirational stickers. I bet that people stuck behind him in traffic are abandoning their vehicles and jogging the rest of the way to work, overcome by waves of encouragement and inclusion. :sidesplit:

-
I think the 0.0 is dumb. I get that it's in response to the 26.2, but still.
-
I find this thread rather hilarious. But then again I have a rather strange--if not warped--sense of humor.
And Uncle Fred gets Instigator of the Quarter for resurrecting it!
-
I don't have any, but the next time I see one I'll buy it and affix it. And if I sense any snickering at races or whatnot at least I'll know who the insecure are. And maybe if you are embarrassed to be a runner, well then, just be that way but dont expect anyone else to be.

This past summer at the street mile event in Eugene there was a tall, attractive, fitness model type lady in her mid 30s or so (think Carrie Tollefson) walking around who had a tattoo on her shoulder of something like 31:52. I was wondering if she was a 10k runner and that was her PR, or if it was a bible verse.

Why would you tattoo your PR? You might lower it someday, right?

Good point but Tollefson is 36 or 37 now, with 2 kids, past PR age. I don't know much about bible verses and don't know if she's into that. She did run low 4s for 1500 to make the the 2004 Olympic team, and I found a link that had her 5000 PR at 15:04. She's definitely more of mid-distance type. She was voted 4th most beautiful runner (as if we knew such a thing even existed!) a few years back. She should have a big 4 on her hip.

It's a 26.2 infinity loop :panic:
-
We never did do bumper stickers much. In the early 80s I ran for Foot of the Rockies and and they gave me a little sticker (6 or 8") that had a Colorado plate image (the green mountains) that simply said Run. I totalled that car a year later, and that was it other than a couple college stickers here and there.
26.2 or 0.0, whatever. It's no different from I  NY or my dog is an honor student.
I do like Arrojo's 0.062!

Now that this thread is petering out can we talk about how much I hate the people that put stupid stick figure representations of their families (often complete with pets) on their rear windows?

The Saturday before Christmas,as D'Kid & I were leaving Target, I saw a young woman struggling to get a new bike into the back of her Outback. I debated on whether or not I should help, as that might seem a little creepy for a guy to appear out of the blue and assist. Finally, I decided I would, since i thought that's what I would want someone else to do if D'Wife was in a similar predicament.
She had the seat behind the driver folded down, but couldn't fold the other seat down, because of the car seat on that side, otherwise it would have been an easy deal.
Quickly, I showed her how to get the front wheel off [it had QR, thank goodness] and, more importantly, how to get it back ON, securely. Then, we kinda wiggled it in together.
When all was done, and we closed the rear door, I saw that she had several Star Wars-flavored stickers on the back: a Rebel Alliance insignia, Mos Eisley Spaceport Parking Permit, "This Car Did the Kessel Run in 12 Parsecs," standing out
I asked her "Tell me honestly ... when you rolled the bike up, opened the rear door, and couldn't see how it would fit, you said 'I got a bad feeling about this' didn't you?"
She smiled sheepishly, knowing that she'd been busted as a fellow geek, thanked me, and we were on our separate ways

Is THAT how it started? That's awesome ... of course, the Ladies have completely co-opted it [you NEVER see "Never Fucck with a Dude ..."] and with good reason,: chicks who run marathons & beyond are generally just that much more badass than dudes
Now, the other side was espoused by Bill Cosby. His thinking was that most criminals probably played football or basketball in High School and had 400/800 yard speed "they're not running at 9-minute miles, saving themselves for the long run, youknowhatimean?" So if you live in a sketchy neighborhood, and want to jog, train like a sprinter

I find it to be good policy to swap out the window stickers periodically to keep things fresh. I plan to replace the 50k one with the one I get after Toto 50k.
That's a good policy

I saw a good one last weekend when we were at the ski races in Homer. In the style of the 26.2 sticker it said 3,022 feet. One must admit, that's a nice progression from bottom to top.
PLUS, there's just the right amount of room for 26.2 and either 50K, 70.3 or 140.6

As far as the bottle openers are concerned: I think you may have been magnetized or alumnitized momentarily, so anything that you are not liable for anything that you collected at that time

I just started watching some episodes of the TV show "elementary." It is a retelling of Sherlock Holmes set in modern New York. Jonny Lee Miller plays Holmes. He has several tattoos, including a 26.2 on his back. Here is a screen grab.

Chris your packet had a sticker. One of the paper items in cellophane inside was a sticker, a tattoo and a bracelet. I did bag stuffing and stole one.

It started with the 26.2 sticker on cars, and spread to all kinds of distances. Including the 0.1 beer run sticker. (http://draftmag.com/beerrunner/beer-runner-bumper-sticker/)
Now Silver Moon Brewing (http://www.silvermoonbrewing.com/) in Bend, Oregon, is putting their spin on the badger of honor: The 16 oz sticker.
You can earn this sticker in the brewery’s tap room, and also earn your beer with some sweat on the local Cycle Pub tour. (http://www.cyclepub.com/)
You can browse the brewery’s 16 oz selections here (http://www.silvermoonbrewing.com/brews.php).
Clever, and quite possibly mandatory

Walking into a running store, I see two people I'm assuming were runners (26.2 t-shirts) making fun of a car that has a 5k and 10k sticker on their car. Basically mocking how insignificant those distances were. We've seen people on this forum make similar comments.
In this case, I know who's car it belonged too. A friend of mine who served three tours in Iraq and was wounded on in all three tours, the final one being a loss of a leg. When he returned home, he suffered from PTSD that resulted in him losing his marriage and visitation with his kids. He then tried to commit suicide. Today (24 months later) he has his life in order and is a very active runner, including finishing two marathons. That 5k sticker was from me challenging him to get off his ass and do something. The 10k sticker was his own challenge. He has no 26.2 stickers because he considers running a lifestyle now instead of a battle for life. Thus the reason the 5k and 10k stay on his car.
I made a similar statement to the two runners walking into the store and even offered to introduce them to my friend, whom I was meeting there. They refused and bolted in the opposite direction of the store when we walked in.
For most of us, including my friend, a 5k is our warm-up. However, that doesn't make us any better than those rising off the couch and going after a goal, even if that goal is so much smaller than ours. Think before you speak.
OK, lesson learned
For the most part though, 26.2 stickers are for Chumps

Not to mention that it's pretty rookie ball to look down on 5 and 10ks....properly run, they hurt WAY more than a moderate marathon...I try not to look down on anyone, but a 5+ hour marathoner sneering at what could be a sub 15 5ker is laughable...and yes, I do assume that it is a 5+ hour marathoner...because a sub 3 wouldn't be that stupid...

No kidding! 5Ks are HARD! Lauren Fleshman (pro runner, 5K champ) wrote a story for Runner's World a few months ago about how some guy on a plane asked her if she ran, told her he was a marathoner. She told him she raced mostly 5Ks, and he told her to "stick with it, you'll get there someday." Hah!

I was just thinking that same thing about that article - I loved it! It is silly how the thinking has gotten to the point where you're not doing anything "hard" unless you're doing a marathon. If you are racing a 5K, it's hard as shit the whole time.

Yep. I think it's also partially a result of so many "regular" people now running and running marathons. Most runners now know nothing about the actual sport of running -- track & field, cross country, etc. They don't know the names of pro runners or what they actually do.

PLUS, they're easy to find and relatively cheap

I run marathons because I suck at 5K.

You can breathe and think in a marathon...5ks are short enough that you have no excuse not to be in the borderline red zone the whole time...
I dread intervals WAY more than long runs for the same reason...

I'd even say I probably have more potential as an ironman than a marathoner, for similar reasons...

Saturday is much more common out here. I think there are 2 races in all of Utah that happen on Sunday.
-
In the Dallas area you could race on Saturday *and* Sunday most weekends, and if you really wanted to you could sometimes race twice in a day (two 5Ks near each other starting an hour apart, or a 5K/10K run in sequence).

Around here that's the case during the fall, especially with 5Ks. Weekends you are tripping over 5Ks all over the place. Could have done two 5Ks within a few miles of each other last weekend, on Sunday...one was 9 am and one at 11 am. Other distances are much harder to come by though.

Marathon and half marathon stickers are easy to parody. (http://draftmag.com/beer-runner-bumper-sticker/)
But you don’t need a 0.1 sticker to show that you’re a beer runner. You can also show off 13.1 or 26.2…
…On your growler.
The website FunHoppy.com has the familiar half marathon or marathon milestones, except it’s over a line that delineates fluid ounces.
