July 4th, Wednesday
« on: July 04, 2018, 08:35:58 AM »
Sitting in the parking lot of a half marathon.
73 degrees when I left home.
73 on the 90 minute drive.
Then the rains hit.
Dropped to 63 degrees in ten minutes.
Heavy part is past, race start is 30 minutes way.
I was worried about running in the heat,
but it actually may be better than good.
Now if only I had gotten 8 hours of sleep instead of 5.

Half marathon in just under 1:54
About 8:42 pace.
Season best by about 5 minutes.

New shoes, worked good.
Basically no problems at all.

Overcast, some wind, and light rain for first hour.
Overcast and cool next 30 minutes.
Sun came out and it started to get warm last 2 miles.
A couple of hills in the middle, first couple of mile markers were missing,
but basically a perfect race.

Sadly, still 30 seconds per mile behind what I need for Boston,
but that amounts to about 15 pounds.
I got that and more to lose, so still on track.

1:59 was good for 2nd in age group 3 weeks ago,
5 minutes faster is worth about 5th or 6th this time.

Nothing hurt and feeling good. :obh:

Time to eat.

edit:
I finished 7th of 9 in my age group.
The winner traveled 1900 from florida.
And there were a bunch from wayyyy out of state.
The two women I passed around mile 11 came
from Pennsylvania and Maryland.
They were on a "half marathon in all 50 states" quest.

Congrats PA, big steps in the right direction.

I'm doing doubles for the time being. My knee has been bothering me and it gets worse the farther I go. So 40-45 minutes in the morning, and 30-35 in the afternoon (PM workouts  areon treadmill because it's hot as blazes in the afternoons). Knee seems better with the shorter runs. I did 45 with 4X 3 min hill reps this morning.

I'll stick to running, thank you.

I did run 3 miles early before partying my ass off.
I would get drunk on Bud Light with Dylan Mulvaney.
