Race cancellations thread
« on: March 10, 2020, 05:07:10 PM »
NYC half and New Bedford half closed last week.
These are big events, as we know.

And now races all over have subsequently been canceled or postponed.

So this thread is to list and discuss all those cancellations, and any that affect your season.

And how you are approaching this.

USATF masters 10K championships in Dedham (April 26) still on as far as I know but I expect it to be canceled or moved to a later date. It's only 6 days after Boston. I bought airline tickets last month but can defer. I'd be heading into it at build-up stage anyway, not quite ready for prime time racing. However, was looking forward to getting back onto the masters circuit after a 6 month hiatus.

Hoping Bolder Boulder on Memorial Day is still a go. And I'm also thinking of Mt Evans Ascent (10,000 to 14,000 feet), a week or two after that. And the big one for me has been the world masters events in Toronto this summer. That one may or may not go. Bringing in some 8,000 athletes (40s to 90s) from all over the world for 2 weeks seems sort of risky at this point. I'm holding out some hope but also not buying tickets or filling out an entry for that.

I'm not an epidemiologist but think this might have a dual peak. One this spring, then sort of fall off over the summer, and then pick up again next fall/winter. So we might be in for a life-disrupting haul here, affecting everything not just participation at races.
I'll stick to running, thank you.

So the Asheville Half/Marathon for next weekend is cancelled as is a biggish trail 25/50k - Fonta Flora.  The Cooper River Bridge Race is postponed to Aug 1st and I'm ok with it and enjoying many of the posts of the whiny 10kers. Aug in Charleston isn't ideal but ctfu.  I may get to volunteer at an aid station for the Hellbender 100 that same weekend now if it's on.  We'll see.

I'm on the planning committee for the JCC's Falafel 5K and  :fingers:.  It's on my birthday this year and I'd really like to run it.

They haven't been selling out in recent years so you should have time! See how the travel and it all goes. That'd be great.

Bolder Boulder postponed until fall. Date to be announce later.

We might not be racing at all until July or August. If then.
I'll stick to running, thank you.

if then

Ville to Ville Relay postponed to November. I know it's not a huge one but Zach also runs the Bourbon Chase, in Oct, and now do we really think any of these are going to happen?
