Title: What’s on your super bowl menu?
Post by: BonitaApplebum on February 03, 2019, 04:32:32 PM
We are having turkey chili. To start we are having a seven (maybe eight?) layer dip, and my BILs are bringing pizza. Plus probably some chips and stuff.

You?

No watching the game here but DD had a friend over and we made a taco bar with bean tacos.

We had a friend bring pizza and I made stuffed mushrooms, buffalo chicken dip, jalapeno popper bites and Kahlua cake.  Now you see how my 4 week challenge got off to a not so great start.   :D

Same!!! I managed to skip the pizza at ours, but I ate (some of) everything else. Oh well, it was pretty tasty...

I'm doing my own thing this month that started today just for this reason.  :)

I made hummus from Ottolenghi's book, deviled eggs with Israeli pickles and pickle juice (so good) and a crudite platter.

Sure!  I also wing deviled eggs so I glanced at this recipe (https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a56422/dill-pickle-deviled-eggs-recipe/) for ingredient inspiration but did my own thing.

They sell canned Osem pickles in the Kosher section of our grocery.  They're SO good.  Israeli pickles are a fantastic thing.

To the yolks I added mayo (I usually make my own but went the paleo mayo route), mustard, a splash of lemon, a splash of rice wine vinegar, a generous splash of pickle juice from the can and then I minced a couple of pickles but added just enough by eyesight, probably one pickle's worth.  Didn't get fancy with piping or anything but instead sprinkled zaatar on them before serving at the party.  People pretty much just stood around the hummus bowl and egg pile chowing down.   :d

I am *definitely* trying this next time I make deviled eggs. I am a “just wing it” person, too, but I will work some pickles and juice in for sure.

I may even add it to my egg salad next time (I usually add capers)

I love dill pickles (i normally use dill relish) in deviled eggs!

As much as I like dill pickles, these are so much better.

We made buffalo wing style roasted cauliflower (the rest of dinner was just regular dinner since we ate before the game with the kids). The butter sort of undid the virtue of the cauliflower but yum. (Being married to someone from Buffalo has really changed my view on Franks redhot.)
