I don't want to go to the store but want cookies for my son when he finally arrives home this eve.  Will probably try it...

Let us know how they turn out.
I never buy salted butter.

I don't worry about it and so far, I don't think it's ever mattered.

I guess I should add that I haven't ever made cookies from scratch.

i find most cookie recipes do not call for enough salt (i sweat like a mofo).  unless the chemistry is really dialed (e.g. you're making a risen cookie), i don't bother omitting the salt in the recipe when i use salted butter.

I never have unsalted butter in and don't worry about it when it's called for the recipe. If it is something delicate I reduce the salt a bit. And I am known as a good cook.

So good to know!  These cookies turned out really nicely -- and I even froze 4 of the dough balls to see if they turn out well when thawed and baked.  I would love to have a freezer stash.

I've done this a few times. I made cookie dough and scooped out balls with my small scooper to make mini sized cookies for an after school snack for the kids. I had a big bag full so I could take out a few at a time and bake in the toaster oven. It worked perfectly. I quit doing it regularly though because I couldn't stop myself from eating the raw cookie dough balls!
