So now that we have a covid quarantine in our house thanksgiving plans have changed but the menu is still in flux. Here is what I currently have for the two of us allowing for plenty of leftovers:
Herb roasted turkey
Stuffing
Gravy
Mashed taters
Crescent rolls
Cranberry sauce
Green beans
Glazed carrots
Apple Pie
What am I missing???

I'm not really feeling a thanksgiving vibe so I'm thinking baked ziti, homemade focaccia, and tbd for dessert. Still contemplating, though!

I’m going to an outdoor, socially distanced dinner at my boyfriend’s parents’ house in Berkeley. We are bringing Bob the Bird, using the Samin Nosrat buttermilk brine recipe.

This is what I have planned for 4 of us (The Mister, the Spawn & me). We'll definitely lapse into a food coma and have leftovers.
Stuffed mushrooms and maybe deviled eggs for early afternoon appetizers
Roast chicken, also buttermilk-brined a la Samin Nosrat, but with the addition of pancetta, minced garlic, rosemary, and sage jammed under the skin (based on a Tuscan recipe for guinea fowl)
Gravy per The Mister's procedure (this is his bailiwick)
Mashed potatoes with scallions
Savory sweet potato casserole
Sourdough bread dressing with sausage, apples, and leeks
Steamed Brussels sprouts
Pumpkin pie
Unoaked Chardonnay
If we can't find a roasting chicken, we'll go for a duck.

Thomas Keller style mashers
Roasted veggies
Sweet potato casserole
Sourdough stuffing
Roasted veg gravy
Cranberry
Ham for the meat eaters
Pumpkin pie

Modification, Eliza decided we should make fried mac and cheese balls. I am definitely down with that plan.

Going traditional.
Roasted Turkey - I just watch a video on how to spatchcock a turkey. I may try that.
Portuguese style dressing/stuffing - heavy meat based
mashed potatoes with caramelized onions.
Cranberry sauce - DD or DS is making
Roasted green beans with carrots
Dessert - tbd, DD or DS is making this.

It will be one of these two, neither of which I have prepared previously! I'm kinda torn. They both look good. I'd swap out the walnuts for pecans in the second one.

ghirardelli is reliable - and you can usually find it in the supermarket, in myriad forms.

So maybe these? There are so many kinds of dark chocolate, unsweet 60% and all the variants upward. Maybe the more generic the better?

if you have a bunch, i'll refrain - i find a fattoush recipe is a fattoush recipe.
i wouldn't use the candy melts. i'd use bittersweet chips or chunks (easier to melt than a bar, and no palm oil - as in the candy melts).

If you're not a baker, I would recommend against blog recipes, which usually are not really tested well. It's so easy to be led to heartbreak.
I think you could make this in a tart pan. I made it earlier this summer and it was really good.

I agree so much. A cooking recipe from a blog can usually be salvaged, but baking? Stick to the tried and true resources!

Ham (I’ve got some in the freezer so I just need to heat it up)
Rolls
Stuffing
Mashed potatoes
Sweet potato casserole
Green beans
Blueberry pie
Chocolate dream pie
I found small batch recipes for the stuffing and sweet potato casserole, and I’m making a batch of rolls so we can have ham/turkey sandwiches later. It’s not worth cooking a turkey for just us, so I got some thick carved turkey lunch meat so we can have that in sandwiches. Or maybe I’ll beg for some leftovers from my parents, who are cooking a 16 lb turkey for three people.

I don't know. I guess it depends on what I feel like once I get to the grocery store.
Buttermilk chess pie is likely.
Some sort of pork - probably will smoke a pork loin, but if there's a small ham, maybe that.
Mac and cheese and/or sweet potato casserole.
Maybe a blue cheese and pear salad for something green.
Or I could be totally lazy and eat a sandwich, haha.
Or having suggested fesenjan to someone else, I kind of want it now. Although I never found pomegranate syrup locally and am in no mood to reduce pomegranate juice to create it.

So against CH advice, I made this. It was intensely chocolatey and rich and very good.
But its not what I was looking for. The tahini in this recipe enhanced the taste of the chocolate. But what I want is the taste of tahini/sesame. I think I'll try the billionaire bars or something else with a tahini or sesame layer for Christmas.

This was the pie I made. The genius recipes series has brought so many hits into my life & this is no exception! I don't bake sweets often but I'm loving the sound of the recipe book she created this out of. I was super skeptical about this pie but it actually was really good & easy and not as non-traditional as I thought it might be & I want to try all her other sugar pie varieties. 🤣

I thought this looked good, too -- more along the lines I'm looking for but DH hates eggs and is weirdly afraid of custard so it is a no go.

I'm thinking I need to incorporate toasted sesame into the crust, with the same chocolate-tahini filling I used in my original recipe.

That does look good! I have only recently come around to sweet custards. If they aren't cooked just right they are either too soft or I can taste the egg. I do like eggs but I don't like the taste of them in dessert.
