1 mile.

1 stinking mile.

But I used my awesome kick to finish in under 10 minutes.

Last November I ran a 10 mile race. A little disappointed with the time, but everything was fine.
Took two days off then went for an easy run.
Seven minutes in something went wrong.
On one step there was a slight twinge in my right foot.
The next step hurt a lot more.
On the third step there was a sharp pain.
By the inner ball where the ankle joins the top of the foot.
It swelled up for a week and was really sore and weak.

Took 10 days off, tried again, ended up in more pain.
Decided to shut it down for two months and start up again in January.
Then I somehow injured my left foot, too.
No idea how, just one day there was a pain across the bottom of the arch.
The next day it was worse, and the next day even worse.

That was the spot I had a seriously injured about 5 years ago.
That time is was from running too far in cheap shoes (plantar).
I guess this time it was for walking in good shoes. No idea.

So I let two more months go by.
Last week I started jogging slowly for 2 and a half minutes.
Equal to a quarter mile.
After a week I went for 5 minutes, or a half mile

Today I ran a measured mile on the track.
I have gained 10 pounds over the last 4 months.
I have no lungs. And my hammies got sore.
And there was some soreness in the spots that had been injured.
And I had twisted my foot on a rock a couple of days ago.
And I have a fever from a cold.

But damn it, I ran a mile in under 10 minutes.

Tomorrow I'm going to run another.

Good miles, everybody.

I lied. I ran another mile tonight. 9:45 at a steady pace.

I started shivering while walking to the track. Still have a touch of fever.

Shivering stopped in the first 100 meters, gasping for breath ensued.

My oxygen exchange rate is pitiful after 4 months off.

Hammies hurt the most, but not bad, usual aches in the feet.

Still, better than this morning's run.

Good miles, everybody.
