I still don't believe that he looks bad in the picture NL posted. He looks like an endurance athlete, and many bikers look like him. But I like the looks of lean men.

Beside the point, but the terms malnourished and gaunt and overly skinny include value judgments that are somehow acceptable for the thin, but equivalents for the overweight and obese are not politically correct. Many, many people who live on fast food diets and restaurant fare are malnourished, regardless of their size.

I am comparing him to what i am used to seeing him look like over the past 10+ years to now. Some pictures are more flattering than others. I am sorry if I offended you.

I think he can, I think he can! He would never let 40 miles in 24 hours slip from his grasp!

As I said before, I believe that he has enough intelligence and experience to manage his nutrition. He's looking very skinny right now, but he's fine. He knows what he's doing.

Yes! To the first point and I agree with the second.
In my first badwater, if I look at pictures from start to finish, I look 15+ lbs lighter at the end, no joke. That was only 135 miles! I cannot imagine refueling enough going 50 miles a day. Marshall did during his cross country run only bc he ate fast food and junk food, which is not a great option either. If Jurek was not refueling properly, he'd never make it. It is expected to lose some weight at his effort. I agree that the one picture in question was a bad picture and many since then, he looks better. Just seeing tha one pic, I was shocked and did not recognize him.

He's finally around that damn lake he seemed to be at forever. You can now see the end from where he is when you resize the tracker map to a 1 mile scale. So that's a good sign, right?

I'd presume he's pulling an all-nighter or close to it. If he can get to Abol Bridge by sunrise (15 to go) then he's probably in good shape. Having a cushion before climbing Katahdin would be nice.

In a way, he's like Jens Voigt in that even he doesn't succeed, he shows so much class and humanity and strength and humor along the way that success just makes it better
