« on: January 23, 2021, 07:53:21 PM »
From the ones I have a record of...

800m: 1:48 - Otukile Lekote

1500m: 3:38 - Bernard Lagat

1 mile: 3:53 - Laban Rotich

3k: 7:35 - Haile Gebrselassie

2 mile: 8:26 - Craig Mottram

5k: 13:27 - Khalid Khannouchi

5 mile: 22:17 - Simon Rono

10k:  29:24 (some fast college dude at NCAA Mountain regionals)

Half marathon: 59:24 - Haile Gebrelassie

Marathon: 2:05:52 - Robert Cheruiyot (Boston 2010)

"live" being a very loose term for the longer ones.  I'll look up the ladies next...

Been a long time, so most are dated. I have never been to a USA or NCAA or track championship, but have been to some XC champs. Went to the Drake Relays every year in high school and college, so most of the fastest times were at those meets. A long time ago.

100 m - 10.0x Calvin Smith, Harvey Glance also ran 10.01 but day before; 11.0x Merlene Ottey
200 m - 20.x Calvin Smith; 22.x Merlene Ottey
400 m - 45 something, but I don't remember who; 51.9 Arria Minor (CO high school state meet a couple years back)
800 m - 1:45.8 Randy Wilson (meet record still holds); 2:01 Essie Kelly
mile - 3:55 Steve Scott; 4:37 Cindy Bremser
5000 - 13:27 Nick Rose; 15:25 Judi St. Hillaire
10000 - 28:07 Kip Koskei; 32:17 Lynn Jennings (my wife got 3rd in that race)
Half Mar - 1:04 Jon Sinclair (at 5000 ft elev.); 1:14 Maureen Custy (also at altitude)
Marathon - 2:07 Moses Tanui; 2:23 Fatuma Roba

Other Notables -
NCAA Cross Country - Alberto Salazar beating Henry Rono
USA Cross Country - Molly Huddle (2019), Laura Thweatt 2013 and 2015
3000 m steeple - Henry Marsh 8:31
400 m hurdles - 49.x Nolan Cromwell (went on to be an NFL great)

High Jump - 7'4" Bill Knodel of Univ. of Iowa at half time of a Big 10 basketball game, using the western roll technique, which was all pretty remarkable to see.

I went to the Boston Indoor Games for several years in the 2000s, which always attracted an insane field and is where all the track marks came from. The Boston Marathon was easy enough to drop in on when I lived back east and that was the fastest one I happened to catch.  And of course I was going to show up anytime the Haile Gebrselassie show came within a 500 mile radius...it should be noted that the 59:24 was on a hilly course (central park in NYC) on a hot day.

And for the women....

800:  2:00 - Jen Toomey
1 mile: 4:29 - Carmen Douma
3000: 8:30 - Meseret Defar
5000: 14:32 - Tirunesh Dibaba (world record at the time)
Half Marathon:  1:09:25 - Mara Yamauchi
Marathon: 2:20:43 - Margaret Okayo
