Sixers haven't been the same since Croce split

These shall be dark times in Philly, all around

I don't mind waiting, I'm going to try and trust the new ownership as they swing for the fences.

It would be spectacular if they hit a home run with Embiid.

They're winning too many games, this is supposed to be a lottery year.

If they get the first pick it will be Okafor, why is Duke bad in Philly? I don't follow college hoops, but my memory seems to be of Christian Laetner's moment of glory.

My dad is excited about college ball this year because he's a Villanova alum, his moment of glory was watching Nova beat the Hoyas in Lexington.

I don't think MCW was a good player, and this team could potentially have 4 first round picks in this year's draft
Team Tank!

Obvious, until it wasn't. Okafor was the consensus number one or two pick until about a month before the draft, then you had all these general managers who suddenly thought Russell was better. I AM glad the Lakers outsmarted themselves and took Russell. I fear the Sixers would have probably taken Russell if they had been at number 2. They really wanted to get him.

You may be right.  I don't really follow college bball until the ncaa tournament.  I thought Okafor was supposed to be the consensus #1.  Towns really looked good in the tourney, and it was no surprise he went #1 after all was said and done.  Really didn't know too much about Russell as I didn't see him too much as Ohio State made a quick exit from the tourney.  I thought some other Kentucky players may move up higher.

I think they want him to try to put the kibosh on the constant tanking.  Don't know if he would be able to, I just think the league wants to make the appearance that it's anti-tanking.

I don't think Okafor was a bad pick at 3 last year, he needs to grow up and learn to play defense, but he has true scoring talent. It would be nice to get a generational talent like a James or Curry. It would also be good if Embiid could recover from that microfracture and log some minutes.

The 2013 Brooklyn/Boston trade looks worse every year for Brooklyn.

-----
BROOKLYN, NY – The Brooklyn Nets have acquired Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Jason Terry and D.J. White from the Boston Celtics in exchange for Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks, Kris Joseph, Keith Bogans and three first round draft picks (2014, 2016 and 2018), as well as the right to swap first round picks in 2017, Nets General Manager Billy King has announced.

“Today, the basketball gods smiled on the Nets," said Nets Principal Owner Mikhail Prokhorov. "With the arrival of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, we have achieved a great balance on our roster between veteran stars and young talents. This team will be dazzling to watch, and tough to compete against."

Unfortunately that's why he dropped to 3 in his draft.  His injury history.

I would have taken the chance too.  BTW, I was hoping he would drop to 6 so the Celtics would take him.  We ended up with Marcus Smart, who I believe they are very happy with, but Embiid has the potential to be a Hall of Famer if he can get himself healthy.  He is impressive to watch.  He patrols the point and protects the rim like DeAndre Jordan, and in addition can fire up 3s from the outside.  Love the athletic big man.  Admittedly a Celtics fan, but I want him to make it.  Awesome player to watch if he's healthy.

Embiid could be amazing, even if he only has a 5 year career. I think the 76ers org has handled the Simmons injury pretty badly, They won't give any kind of timeline for when he will return. Bryan Colangelo needs to be a bit more forthright with the media on stuff like this.

Boo ha ha!

I was thinking about you tonight. Fultz is the pick. Let the Lakers deal with Lonzo Ball and his Carl Lindros-like dad. Much respect to Mister Hinkie for his vision, he fleeced Sacramento good.  A good night for the Celties and a decent one for the 76ers.

Domo arigato, Sacramento.

76ers trading with the Celts to get Fultz?

I like Fultz as a player, but let's not give away the farm to get him.

I found this tidbit fascinating: "Oddly enough Boston has Jackson, Fox, Monk, Ball and Tatum but not Fultz in their draft night "Who will be the Pick?" advertisement picture"*

Source: some guy on the webz.*

I think the 76ers can stay at 3 and still get a good player in Josh Jackson or Lonzo Ball, Colangelo might get fleeced if he makes this trade.

Deal done. The 76ers didn't give up too much, IMO. I was worried they might. As silly as it sounds, this really is a win-win trade for both teams. Fultz and IT may not have fit together well and the Celts have various options at number 3. The Celts could use the picks to engineer a trade too.

I'm not sad about the trade.  I'd be happy to get Josh Jackson at 3.  I'm sure the Lakers take Ball at 2.  I hope.

I'd go Jackson, if he falls to 3. He has hops and a huge upside. He's also a feisty competitor, he hates to lose.  I don't know much about Tatum. My impression is that he's kind of in the Oakafor mold: not athletic, but a polished scorer.

Ball could be there at 3, but I don't think the Celts want him.

The Lakers traded Russel, I think they are going to take Fox or Ball.... or Jackson! After the 76ers, this thing is difficult to predict. I almost think that the Celts will trade back if Jackson is not there. Or maybe the Celts will trade for an established NBA player.

1. Fultz
2. Fox
3. Jackson, or trade.
4. Tatum
5  Ball

I heard Josh Jackson cancelled his pre-draft workout with the Celts and Ainge got pissed. You have to wonder about Jackson's intelligence.

I'm a little surprised that the Celtics didn't make make a trade, I'm sure they tried. I don't think the trade with Sixers was a bad move for the Celts. Tatum might turn out to be really good and the Celtics already have Isaiah Thomas, so Fultz wasn't the best fit.

I'm not sure how well his game will translate to the NBA, I think he'll struggle to create his own shots because he doesn't have great speed or moves. He's the best pure passer in the draft though, and if he has LeBron....he'll pile up the assists.

Both guys signed a 1 year contract, so a large amount of flexibility and low amount of risk for the Sixers. Hopefully they can win 40 games and attract bigger name free agents the following season.

Ooo, they're loading up to challenge the Cavs!

Tatum looked decent in his first game, so did Fultz. I really hate when people watch 22 minutes of summer league play and call Fultz a bust.

Here's a highlight video for the truly bored!

Markelle Fultz Full 76ers Debut Highlights vs Celtics (2017.07.03) Summer League - 17 Pts, 3 Blks

The only thing that disappointed me, a little, was the lack of foot speed. I thought Fultz was a little faster. He seems to be able to jump, 3 blocks. Smooth jump shot and good handle. Maybe not a classic point guard, but a definite offensive threat. He'll be good.

I don't know if the Celts are done yet. Aren't they supposed to be going after one more free agent?

I think they need to.  They lost all their bigs (except Al Horford)

Kelly Olynyk - gone most likely
Jonas Jerebko - gone most likely
Amir Johnson - gone
Tyler Zeller - gone

That's our guys 6'9" and taller.

Obviously Ante Zizic will make the team.  We don't have anyone else.  Rebounding was our problem last year, and it doesn't look much better.

Maybe they get Marc Gasol. I'm behind on my NBA rumors today.

This is a good article. Maybe a bit Phillycentric, but it's a good snapshot of the league right now.

Maybe at the Fontainbleau! When I was there in March. I saw two really big guys who seemed to be college or NBA players.

I've never been to a Heat game or A Dolphins game. I've seen the Panthers twice, and I've gone to 4 or 5 Miami Marlins games. i have a friend who used to have season tickets to the dolphins, he gave them up a few years ago when the team started to get bad.

Lonzo "airrrr" Ball! Lonzo had a bad shooting night in his summer league debut, 2 for 14....bust! :D

You should start a thread titled 362443 in which you post what Embiid tweets. :D

Does this mean that the process is complete?

The draft part of the process is (almost) complete. Now the free agent part of the process begins.

The process was Sam Hinkie's idea, so who knows what the 76ers would be doing if he were still GM. I now believe that Hinkie may not have had a full blueprint. He's smart, and he's definitely an "outside the box" thinker, but i'm not sure he had much of a plan beyond tanking and "collecting assets" in the form of draft picks. The idea was very simple, but Sam took it to extremes, and he hit on Embiid, Simmons, Saric, while the jury is still out on Fultz. Though Fultz is more of a Colangelo pick.

Count Okafor, MCW, and Nerlens Noel as misses, but teams make bad first round picks all the time. You pick in the high first round often enough and you're going to miss some.

Sam was like Mickey Mouse in Fantasia, smart enough to be able to cast a spell to bring the brooms to life, but not quite skilled enough to make them turn back into inanimate objects, so I guess that would make Jerry/Brian Colangelo the sorcerer, but Jerry/Brian ain't all that great either.

We'll have to C in the long run, this will play out over the next 5 years.

Admittedly, I always thought that was part of the process.  Draft a really good player.  Have him get 'injured' for a year so the team will suck for an extra year, and get right back in the lottery.  Get another high pick. repeat.
