Cookbook and/or cocktail recipe book gift ideas
« on: December 22, 2020, 09:13:40 PM »
I recently bought my sister Ina Garten's "Modern Comfort Food" and she is really enjoying it.  She said you won't lose weight with these recipes, tho!

I'm a big Barefoot Contessa fan.

Any other fun cookbooks or cocktail books out there?

I came in to also suggest Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. One of my favorite cookbooks.

I'm going to have to get that.  I've gotten REALLY lazy about just dumping seasoning (Tony's or burger seasoning) on something and throwing it on the grill.  Or making a sandwich.  I can improvise some (and do) because it's faster than recipes.  But if I could do it better, I might cook more.  It's still significantly more fun to cook for or with someone else.  Cooking for myself is right up there with doing laundry, except that I can't skip the laundry and just have  sandwich.
Ellen stole my joy and I want it back!

Meh. RG don't be too hard on yourself. I can cook but I'm so sick of figuring it out. We do mostly meal kits these days.

I have the Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat book and took some of her recommendations to heart, especially seasoning meat early and adding acid to everything. I really like the recipe for crème fraîche. It’s easy to make and good on so many things. Can y’all recommend any other recipes?

Mmmm so many!

Tomato confit.
Tahdig-- which I like to eat with this garlicky spinachy yogurt dip recipe I forget the name is.
I got raves for the buttermilk chicken technique.
The garlicky green beans.
Meat eaters probably have some others.

Thanks! That is weird. I just made a pasta sauce yesterday with almost the same ingredients as the tomato confit ( I also had zucchini) but I just sautéed them and didn’t use nearly that much olive oil. I’ll try that as soon as I can. The tahdig is going to be harder to make... it sounds delicious but I need to adapt it to my instant pot and smaller skillet.
