Quote from: recovering fatass soundtrack
So, if you've ever run a race, you know you get like a goody bag. Like six-year-olds at a birthday party. And, like a six-year-old I am going to complain about mine.

There were shitty muffins and coupons and all that other crap; which, whatever, I gave to my wife. She loves that shit. What was not in the goody bag was a 13.1 sticker. Now, listen. I'm not saying I was going to put it on my car; that would be embarrassing. But I would have put it somewhere in my house or something. Or a garage, if I ever get to the station in life where one has a garage. I always assumed that's where people got them from. Oh, you just ran 13.1 miles? Here, have a sticker to prove it.

Now, either this particular race dropped the ball and didn't give out the stickers, or anyone can just go out and buy themselves a 13.1 or 26.2 sticker. That's problematic for a number of reasons, not the least of which, who in God's name is buying that sticker for themselves? I would have gladly accepted the sticker. I'm not going to go out and buy my own pat on the back, though. Have some pride, for chrissakes.

So, who gave that knucklehead above all the 13.1 stickers? Wouldn't someone see his car and say: "Oh, he already has one, and one is certainly enough"

... and yes, it's obviously a dude driving that around ... no chick would do that

BTW: It's a LAW in New Jersey, that if you have a Jeep Wrangler Soft Top, one of these must be prominently displayed

0.0 is pretty funny.

I saw a car yesterday with three stickers - 5K, 10K and 13.1.  DH chuckled.

Was the 13.1 covering up the 10K covering up the 5K? Like the driver was moving up in class?

0.0 if funny.

3.1 or 6.2 is lame (even though I would love to be in 10k shape and not have everything hurt).

I don't think 13.1 is uncool.  I will throw a bi ass damn party if I can ever get my body up to that legitimately.

I am definitely getting a .062 one next summer.

I saw a MA license plate yesterday that said ' RUN 262' and then a bumper sticker that said 26.2. I thought of this post since it was bumped again recently. The guy was probably in his 50s and kind of looked like a runner. He was driving so hard to tell.

So I still do not get why is wrong about using a bumper sticker, or whatever, to state your interests/hobby/way of life/etc.

DH has a 26.4 sticker on his car, from a trail marathon.

I think this is a really dumb thread.

Make a bumper sticker about it to really share your thoughts with the community.

It's important that someone with half a brain point out that it's perfectly acceptable to affix a running related bumper sticker on one's car and that not everyone, not even a majority, within the running community think this is somehow wrong headed or displays faux braggadocio or whatever it is you people have a hair up your ass about.

Well you've got the half a brain part down.

I don't think the majority of people in this thread think what you've so graciously attributed to us all.  There is some negativity towards 3.1 and 6.2 stickers, but you of all people (elitist coastal snob that you are) should understand that.  Even so, its not wrong to put it on your car if you're proud of that and "not everyone, not even a majority" in this thread thinks that.  Calm the fuck down!

Me, I don't get that negativity toward 3.1 and 6.2. It's not easy to run those distances well.

I'd rather run a fast 10K than a slow full or ultra. And as a fan a 27 min 10K sure beats a 10 hr 50 miler, unless it's up the Eiger or something.

Clearly we need all runners to list their PRs on their stickers so we can properly judge them and decide who is a "real" runner and who isn't.
