There have been a lot of breakfast pictures lately... eggs and fried bologna mostly... but some people have been making their own version of some classic Newfoundland grocery store staples:

Debbie made some mustard pickles:

Susan made a batch of jam jams:

I feel like there hasn't been a lot of action on the page lately...

What is a mustard pickle?

it's like mixed sweet pickles (cucumber, onion, cauliflower, bell pepper, sometimes carrot) in mustard sauce

there was a bit of a crisis back in 2016 when Smucker's announced they were going to stop making Zest and Habitant mustard  pickles https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/say-it-ain-t-so-social-media-uproar-over-discontinued-mustard-pickles-1.3477717

a local company stepped up production, and a lot of people have started making their own

Huh.  If it wasn't sweet, I would probably like it!

I think I might really like a hot and sour mustard pickle. Maybe I should develop a good recipe and try to shift the mustard pickle culture here!

Chasing Amy, it's like they heard your summons!

Perry is getting ready for pizza nite [sic] with his hunny.

Albert is having something in a crockpot for dinner... I am *pretty* sure he hasn't cooked it yet...

bologna, bacon, onion, cheddar, and mushroom pizza

i suspect i may have had a slice of something similar when i was a college student.  there was probably a significant amount of hash involved.

Pretty much all the Newfie food posts look like something somebody stoned would come up with.

This looks pretty normal.

I wouldn't eat those scoops of mashed tater, but the cod and carrots look pretty good.

potatoes and carrots are a Dutch thing.  Is that a popular combo in Newfoundland too?

Cool, I never heard of hutspot.  Might have to give that a try, but I would probably add something to give it a little zing.  Jalapeno, maybe.

'

the cod looks horrific to me... I mean, if you hadn't said cod, I would have thought some kind of failed egg dish

I admit I am at a loss to explain the obsession Newfoundlanders have of serving potatoes or other mashed things in ice-cream scoops.

The real hutsepot, prepared with the right kind of meat, is a horror memory from my childhood.  :vomit:  I am from the right region to have tasted the real thing.

If you badly want something from that region, give waterzooi a try.

How do you feel about Cobb salad?  :D  From my perfunctory googling, I didn't realize hutspot/hutsepot involved meat.  The recipe I looked at seemed like a way to make mashed potatoes more interesting by the addition of other veggies.
