And World Masters is canceled. I was going to enter the 8K XC and 10K but have held off since January. Maybe they'll just postpone to next year.

Sorry Coyote. I was hoping for a meetup at the World Masters in my home town and was planning to take some vacation time to volunteer at those events.  Yes, maybe 2021.  :(

Interesting that they haven’t canceled outdoor Masters nationals in July yet (Greensboro NC). But I’m sure that will be a formality.
I would get drunk on Bud Light with Dylan Mulvaney.

I might actually sign up for that. Plan was 3K or 5K on the weekend of the 5th (and might do a double with the mile and 3K on the same weekend), and then an 8K on the about 24th or 25th.
I'll stick to running, thank you.

Great!  I want to but need to make healing my foot a priority.  We'll see...

Boston already offering refunds for 2020--so who knows if it even goes off in September. Some speculation that they'd do an elites only race, like Tokyo last month. Just volunteers and a few dozen runners each in the men's and women's field and some decent tv coverage. That'd give us something to cheer about.

I do think we'll be racing locally by early or mid-summer.

All of this is small compared to the big picture and the seriousness of the situation.

I'll stick to running, thank you.

Totally agree re: big picture

I've been thinking about Boston while out on my recovery walks. Ordinarily there would have been dozens upon dozens of races this spring allowing people to qualify for Boston 2021. And then they'd announce from that group right around the date they've rescheduled for Boston 2020.

I think maybe Boston 2020 will happen in September - though who knows.  The people who train for it will already have abandoned their training once and will be hesitant to totally commit again.  Nobody wants to be Charlie Brown holding the ball for Lucy; doing so while running 70 miles a week  :nono: and potentially compromising your immune system during a redoubling of the virus. That will be a tough call. So will we really see the typical number of runners requalifying at Boston?  Who knows.

And there won't be the typical pool of BQs to select from since so many were cancelled this spring. Meanwhile there will be more hesitancy to qualify for 2022, let's be honest.  I think this changes the Boston Marathon for years to come.

If we even have a marathon season in 2020, they'd almost have to extend the qualifying window by several months. Say to CIM.

And I think there is a chance we won't seen things as normal for running anywhere until later next year or even into 2022. :(

Now if MM and DocB and their colleagues come up with vaccines as effective as the flu, maybe we'll be back in business before then.

I think you're 100% right.  And frankly how many of us can safely string together 20-24 milers in our areas w/o compromising our safety or others right now?  So much is closed?  And there are health impacts to pushing the body that far so marathon training is kind of a risk right now.
Fingers crossed for a vaccine.

They still haven’t canceled Masters Outdoor Nationals in July. If I were to do it, I’d start training now.  :skep:

I think we'll see a redoubling. June is iffy but July may happen. And I have a feeling the economy will be chosen over health. I'd start training for that one.

This IS the apocalypse. If there would be one hold out it would be Laz.

As an April Fool's joke Jamil Curry and Gary Robbins did a spoof video saying they had bought the Barkley from Laz.

----------------------------------------------------

Jamjam also set up his own marathon. On the helipad on the top of his building.
(I wonder what the elevation is)

I bet nobody thought of running a marathon by doing 1000 laps on a 42 meter course.
At least you get to pass an aid station 1000 times.

Actually I think he did over 1500 laps. But with the wide swings around the
corners he must have run at least a mile extra.

I noticed that and might consider the 5000 or 10000. Pretty small chance I'd go but will be tracking its status.

It'll be super competitive.  Most people I know were bagging Nationals for the Worlds, but if it's the only game in town...

It's just a week after my BIL's (rescheduled) wedding so timing isn't great. However, we can sign up all the way to June 20, so lots of time to track the situation. I'll do the 10 if I go.

I'll stick to running, thank you.
