Outdoor pizza ovens, who has one?
« on: May 14, 2022, 10:54:55 PM »
I got one for Mother's Day, it seems pretty cool. I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet... anyone have any advice?

This is the one I got

https://ooni.com/products/ooni-fyra

It runs on wood pellets.

Oh, that looks cool.

I have an outdoor oven on my someday list, for baking bread and maybe even running a canner and stuff.

I can do flatbreads, focaccia, stuff like that, but it's not big enough for loaves. On the flip side, it's designed to be portable, so we can bring it camping and other places. It even has a carrying case. The chimney and pellet hopper are detachable.

Ooh good to hear!! I think it will get a lot of use here, too.

There's a little prep work to do (assembly, doing an initial burn off, etc.) but hopefully by next weekend we will be enjoying delicious home cooked pizza.

Indeed, very cool!  I'm envious, although until we get junk cleared out of the unfinished side of our basement for better storage, I can't justify another cool cooking item.  It looks perfect for flatbreads, foccacia, and pizza. I think a friend at work bought one (or was thinking of making a purchase) last summer.  Let me ask him.

Longtime friends, F & V, built a major addition to their house in Marlborough.  Among the additions was an indoor pizza kitchen.  That pizza oven is amazing.  Heats up to 1000F, so he gets excellent results.  He has a great recipe for pizza dough that I use on the regular when making thin-crust.  If you want it, please let me know.

F&V have a whole system worked out.  V shapes the dough, adds the tomato sauce (made from their own tomatoes), cheese, and other toppings, and F cooks the pie.  F comes from a large Italian-American family (originally from Calabria) in Kenosha WI and grew up watching his grandmothers, his mom, and his aunts cook.  He picked up a lot and is a marvelous cook.  Here's one of the pizzas (Margherita) he & V made at our get-together (October 2019, before the stupid pandemic).

I'd love the dough recipe, Doc!!

My oven is supposed to get up to 950F. I want to get one of those infrared thermometers to check temps.

Frank uses an infrared thermometer to check the temperature.  It is so high tech!

Is there a way I can attach a pdf file to a reply?  We used to be able to do this on the older CH platform.

Not sure. You could take a screenshot and attach that image, though.

I would like one. The ones I've seen are $300-400 and we don't eat that much pizza at home.
so it's not something I've given much thought to.
I'll eat pizza vicariously via this thread though!

I didn't know that they run on pellets. I had a pellet stove and found that pellets vary widely in quality. It was definitely worth it to buy premium quality.

Yes, we heat our home primarily with pellets and I definitely agree. For this thing I will only be using fancy pants hardwood pellets for sure.

It'll produce good smells for the wildlife.  :)

I thought pellet stoves were being phased out. Two places that sold them around here are gone. We replaced with a heat pump.

They might be? I have no idea. We've had ours for maybe 15 years and have zero complaints.

I just bought the ooni propane fired pizza oven, but the weather has been shit, so it's still in the box. Our plan is have some fabulous outdoor dinner parties where we cook EVERYTHING in the pizza oven.
