Title: Heritage Day at work in a couple weeks
Post by: Magic Microbe on September 06, 2019, 01:54:39 PM
We are supposed to bring in a food that represents our heritage. I am torn between bringing something swedish (maybe cookies...most of the rest is not fit for human consumption) or bringing something solidly 1950s midwestern...like a delicious molded jello dish with canned fruit floating in it. It might be fun to bust out my retro tupperware jello molds. What do y'all think?

Never had it. My family would celebrate with lutefisk, potato sausage, and mashed potatoes with white sauce.

That I can...because I used to have to help make it.  :D

Ground potatoes, ground onion, & ground pork stuffed into some nice fresh intestines from the meat market.

ah, interesting, I wasn't expecting the pork! no seasonings?

in Newfoundland we have "white pudding" which is just suet, onion, rolled oats, white pepper, and salt, stuffed into casings... so I had wondered if it was more or less the same but with potato rather than oats

  Why is 1950s jello your heritage?

Because my family is from North Dakota and Kansas...Jello salad is a traditional midwestern food.
