So, I'm a complete dork.  DH and I are probably going to be in London for 3 weeks next June.  I just looked up where le tour is headed in 2016...and booked a room in Cherbourg for June 30 to July 4.  No payment due now and I can cancel up until next June.  Very likely we won't be able to do this...but I figure that by the time we figure out if we can swing it, everything will be booked.  And, besides, it'll be fun to think about if nothing else!

I think no one has responded to this because we're too envious for words. I hope it works out and you get to go.

Crap, I meant to respond.
blue sleep, not dorky. Well, no more a dork than me, anyway.
We were on a family trip to Paris in July of 2011 (the July timing was no accident), and took a train out to Lisieux for a day to catch a stage.
In one word: Awesome.

DO IT

RG -- Is the Women's World Cup in France in 2019?

Stage 5 -- Flat with few trees so they expect wind to be a factor. I read that they are forecasting rain.

What's with Cavendish?  Is he not getting lead outs or is he a bit skittish after last year's fall?

I didn't get to watch yesterday so I really can't help with the questions.

Stage 6 -- That looks like an interesting finish.

After the 4th in stage 2, he was actually complaining in an interview (?!?!) about Renshaw peeling off too early.
Not a good plan.

I didn't see yesterday's finish, but he coverage I read said that Cav "lost" Renshaw in the runup yesterday so had to freelance.

Honestly, I think Griepel, Kittel, and others are just faster now.
He's just not "the man" anymore, he's realizing it, and he's getting frustrated.

I keep forgetting Sagan is young enough to be eligible for the white jersey.
What a talent.

I caught the last 5 km. There was a crash at about 1 km out. They were on a steep uphill and Tony Martin swerved to miss someone on his left and Nibali was right there with Froome right on his wheel. Martin went down and broke his collarbone. Nibali went down but is fine. Froome managed to stay upright. Tejay went down. I think he's okay. The uphill did help mitigate the damage since it slowed things down a lot but the road was mostly blocked for a little while. Only a few were in front of the crash and contested the sprint.

What was Martin dodging?  It was such an erratic move.  Feel bad for him.  His collarbone is apparently in several pieces, a compound fracture. Ouch.

Quote
Martin held the race lead until he crashed at the foot of the climb to the finish in Le Havre after touching the rear wheel of a Europcar rider. The bump caused him to swerve into Giant-Alpecin's Warren Barguil, who in turn knocked Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) over. Nairo Quintana (Movistar) was unable to avoid the fallen riders and he, too, crashed, while Chris Froome (Sky) narrowly avoided the pile of fallen riders.
