Produce box of the week
« on: April 29, 2020, 01:48:56 PM »

Ok this weeks box
Apples
Oranges
Squash
Zucchini
Romaine lettuce
Iceberg lettuce- I think it’s huge. Better not be cabbage
Giant onions. One was mushy and I threw it away
Bag of potatoes
Pineapple
GrapeS
Broccoli

Not panicked about this one. Except I still have apples and oranges from last week

Nice haul.  And oranges can sit in the fridge for a looooong time if you have space in the fruit drawer.  Or make the margarita mix. :)

That kind of looks like cabbage to me. If it is, do you need help with it?  I'm sure you're good with the rest.  Also, if you happen to have fish sauce and butter in the house I have a really delicious broccoli recipe that might be different from your same old.

Haha yes that looks suspiciously cabbage like!

I’d be interested in the broccoli recipe.

I will have to further inspect but I think you’re right. It smelled like lettuce but it’s so big it must be cabbage. I will need ideas.

Also I got a cantaloupe as well.

And I don’t have fish sauce. Just the idea of it makes me gag. I don’t care what it really is.

that looks great! I can see something like this kicking me out of my comfort zone.

And yes to the broccoli recipe diablita!

We've been making a version of the lemony broccolini RA posted in the broccoli thread. So similar to what we were already doing, but amazing how much better it was!

I'll be back tomorrow with more recipes but if you have access to a grill, slice thickly, spread w/ olive oil and salt and grill until charred.

are they red delicious apples? The only thing those are good for is apple sauce.

They’re more of a Macintosh type. Not my favorite but work with some peanut butter

Is this for the cabbage? I love, love grilled cabbage. Unfortunately I cannot convince DH to love it too. He gets way too excited about slaw to even think about cooking it.

picote, yes. I love grilled cabbage.  I'll eat it as is but maybe if you make the slaw mayo stuff to put on decomposed-style he'd like it?

Stuffed cabbage is tasty.  I haven't made this recipe (I usually wing it) but I make many of Tori Avey's recipes and they're always solid:

We’ve been keeping up pretty well with our produce box. We are a little spoiled by all the years we did the CSA at the farm, though, because we are used to “just picked” freshness and the the stuff delivered in a box shipped from New Jersey (and, obviously, points beyond) just can’t compare. But, it comes right to our house and it’s reasonably priced, so we are going to stick with it until we can join the summer share at the farm. We missed the spring share this year and I’m regretting it.
