Suggestions for a Crimmus dessert?
« on: December 11, 2012, 06:30:15 PM »
I need to make one for the fambly.  Something outrageous.

Cannot have cheese or cream fillings.  Cannot have alcohol.

I do have sparklers.

i made a chocolate cake with a cooked strawberry filling, and chocolate frosting, for a family get-together several years ago.  that cake disappeared in no time flat.

The dobos torte looks fun.

Malt, I see they have it at King Arthur so maybe I could have it shipped in time.  I'm thinking malt powder isn't the same as malted milk powder???

hey, if there's a beer brewer nearby, they would probably know where to get it, too.

the king arthur stuff is expensive, but it would certainly be a quality product.

I LOVE to make Dobos Torte.  LOVE it.  There's a good recipe in one of the Martha Stewart cookbooks.

I made this bouche de noel recipe a few years ago (w/ the mushrooms) and it was pretty fabulous.

I'm leaving it up.  It's what happens when you sneak a taste on the 24th.

I am considering cranberry-orange meringue pie: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2768679/cranberry-and-orange-meringue-pie

Last year for MIL's birthday, GF made iced nougat and raspberry terrine, http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/896666/iced-nougat-and-raspberry-terrine, which was fabulous and would make a good christmas dessert

I don't know if either meets the required outrageousness, but neither are what you would expect someone to bring for xmas necessarily.

Ohhh that cranberry meringue looks good!

I mentioned cannoli cake in yammering, I wish I could make that.

Pumpkin roll!   Nooooo! :D  I've literally made hundreds of them.  They are delicious, it's why I sold so many.
