???

It sounds terrible but is actually good. It's savory and sweet, if you like that combo you're golden.

Yup and yum! Tots are also so much better at a restaurant where they use the deep fryer than when you make them at home in the oven and they are vaguely soggy.

Also good, tots with sriracha mayo.

So true (about the deep fryer).  Friends recommend the air fryer but I'm not currently adding things to my kitchen that only do one job, no matter how well they do them.

Everything is good with sriracha mayo.  Yum.  My fave is blistered shishito peppers.  That would mix well with tots actually.

Yeah I’d love to try the air fryer but I’m 100% on the same page about appliances.

I thought I saw something somewhere about the instantpot having an airfryer attachment? But, I am with you about adding anything to my kitchen appliance list. I barely have room for what I have.

Made by Instant Pot, but a whole different device.

Whether retro or updated, tots are such a delicious and versatile guilty pleasure. Bradenton!BFF made a casserole of tots, spicy breakfast sausage, and grated cheddar cheese for brunch this morning. We washed it down with a 2008 Veuve Clicquot rose’. It was awesome!

Back to New England diet-austerity this evening...

You can even order tots at the movie theater here now. They bring them to your seat and everything.

Me neither.  I'm with you on no more single-purpose appliances.  I'm fresh out of counter space.

Oops, sorry RA.  Meri is right, there is a lid you can buy that claims to add air fryer capability to the IP.  I was thinking of the Instant Pot Vortex air fryer which is a whole separate device that they also vend.

I would eat all of that menu CG!

One of our favorite pub/restaurants has tots.  They are delicious.

I have been tempted by an air fryer but just don't want another appliance.  Ha!

I would eat all of those foods at your party!
I would eat all of that menu CG!

At the end of the party, the only thing there was left over was spinach dip. I can happily get behind a lot of it but I don't understand the purpose of ham salad as a sandwich filling, and I can't get my head around grape jelly as a meatball sauce (same neighbour sometimes cooks sausages in grape jelly or pours hot grape jelly over cooked chicken wings). I don't really approve of cheeseball either, to be honest.

I thought of some other retro foods I genuinely like:
meatloaf
swiss steak
salmon patties (from canned salmon)
scalloped potatoes
baked alaska
pineapple upside down cake
a wide variety of jello salads (but not all jello salads)

I feel like we eat pretty retro, so it's hard to say.

Maybe the xmas sweets.  My mom used to make some cheerio and peanut butter square thing that I loved as a kid.

my mom used to do that too... I think there was also honey in them... mom sometimes put in raisins too

I hated them.

edited to add: So I messaged my mother about these. She says the recipe is peanut butter, honey, and cheerios. Bring to a boil 1 cup of peanut butter and one cup of honey, remove from heat, stir well. Pour over 4 cups of cheerios and mix to coat, press tightly into an oiled or lined pan and let cool. She said she used to add raisins if she was short on cereal volume, or sometimes other cereals. Also, that she would make these to use up stale cereal, and she is pretty sure that's why I didn't like them. My siblings were less bothered about it.

Have you had tot-chos?  delicious

My local bar does TotRoast.  It's tots with roast beef and gravy and cheese.  It is the bomb.
Ellen stole my joy and I want it back!

Wait.  Is it just grape jelly on the meatballs?  I have only had it with grape jelly is ONE of the ingredients in the gravy.

Yes, the versions I've had (and made) were half grape jelly/half BBQ sauce.

That is what I thought.  I just wanted to make sure the jelly wasn't the only ingredient!
